>> Peter: Hello my name's Peter. I work up here at Belrose in the Site Services department
at House with No Steps and we look after all the different things up here on the site.
My main area of expertise and interest is in the garden as I'm a qualified horticulturalist
and landscape gardener. Yeah that's what I like to do up here mainly.
Yeah, I've got Bi-polar disorder. That's a sort of disorder where you've got highs
and lows in attitude with life and it's sort of easier to be described as saying when
I'm high I'm like on the north pole and when I'm low I'm on the south pole.
It's a good thing for medication because tends to keep me on the equator. That's
where I like to be these days.
When I work in the garden, apart from feeling
hot and sweaty I feel really happy and relaxed you know because I know I can do a good job
which is number 1. I enjoy what I'm doing and it makes a difference to someone you know.
>> Georgina: The thing about Bi-polar is that it is two sided and when Peter is up he's
very good, very happy, works well, works really enthusiastically but when he's down he is
just not able to come to work. He gets depressed or he's not able to function in the work
place and it has a really downward spirally effect on his health as well.
>> Peter: We didn't used to have composting here at the House but I initiated that here
with my studies that I've done on such things. Now we don't need a big bin that we used
to put all the foliage in and pay to get rid of and we've got fresh soil for the gardens
and for potting up the plant for sale. Separate the leaves back a bit so there's
less stress to the plant and then we put them into the pots don't we Brook?
>> Brook: I'm not very good at this. >> Peter: You're pretty good.
>> Georgina: I think that of all of the people in the site services team he would be the
one that everybody gets along with. Nobody has any problem with Peter, you know, Peter
has a way of finding the way through anyone else's difficulty and just meets them at
a level where he can communicate in a very friendly way.
>> Peter: Hey darling, how you going? That's good.
I have a daughter Ruby who's 13. She's very vibrant and active, she's in my opinion
very intelligent. I see Ruby every second weekend we go to the movies, we go to coffee
shops, we have a lot of fun together.
Ruby is my life in the sense of family. She
means a lot to me and I love her just heaps.
I volunteer at a youth group that Ruby goes
to. We have fun playing games all sorts of outings, it's really really healthy for
the young teenagers. As we know it's becoming close towards Easter,
so what do we do at Easter we praise the Lord for all his sacrifices as he died on the cross
and we eat chocolate, alright. Easter egg hunt! Go high five!
It's good for me, good for them. I really like interacting with the kids and staying
young myself.
