Hello, I'm Steve Gonzalez with HP's Industry Standard Servers Marketing team. In this Coffee Coaching session
I will be talking to you about the latest offerings for the DL360p Gen8 -- the 1U that
packs powerful performance in a dense footprint for a range of workloads and applications.
The DL360p Gen8 is part of the DL ProLiant family which contains a complete portfolio
of rack-optimized products to suit the needs of a broad range of customers. Within the
DL line the 300p series is focused on delivering products with the best features in performance,
serviceability and management.
So, what does the DL360p have to offer?
The DL360p supports up to 2 Intel Xeon® E5-2600 v2 series processors, with choices of
4, 6, 8, and 10, or 12 cores with speeds up to 3.5 GHz, DDR3 memory speeds up to 1866MHz,
and a 768GB maximum memory footprint utilizing the 32GB load reduced DIMMs.
This server also provides storage and networking flexibility. This system supports both large form factor (LFF)
and small form factor (SFF) hard drives giving the customer the choice of capacity or speed to accommodate their
individual needs. It can host up to 4 LFF, 8SFF or 10 SFF hard drives including SAS,
SATA and SSDs -- and that means customers can get up to 16TB of storage in one, tiny U with
the 3.5" 4TB SATA hard drive. As a server delivering the highest performance, the DL360p ships
standard with P420i Smart Array embedded but also supports a full portfolio of Smart
Array to accommodate various customer needs.
Rather than embedding networking on the motherboard, the DL360p provides network flexibility by
supporting a variety of FlexibleLOMs such as 4 x 1Gb, 2 x 10 Gb, FlexFabric or Infiniband
as well as FH/HL and LP PCIe slots which accommodate most option cards.
Efficiency is a key customer ROI so Gen8 systems support up to 96% efficient titanium power
supplies that work in conjunction with the HP's intelligent PDUs and allow for power discovery and
power capping at the server level. This results in efficient use of power and resources and
ultimately betters the data center bottom line.
And finally, all Gen8 servers ship standard with iLO Management Engine giving customers
the quality management they have come to expect from HP. Customers can get up and running
quicker, update systems faster and resolve issues more rapidly with Intelligent Provisioning,
Active Health and Proactive Support.
Serviceability has improved greatly in this generation. When you remove the hood you will
see the difference. Cables are flat with cable routing area on the sides. The PCI riser solutions
have an easy to
use thumbscrew for quick release and removal for replacement. And several rail options, including
the new easy install rails, gives a variety of racking choices.
The Smart Socket Guide is an HP innovation put in place to combat a customer pain point
--bent pins when installing the processors. This spring loaded latch in combination with the
blue casing around the processor prevents fingers from coming into contact with the
components and causing damage and downtime.
With Gen8 comes the new Smart Carriers. They are smaller than the previous generation to
allow more storage in DLs. The intuitive design has an activity
ring that lights when the drive is in use, the fault LEDs gives real time information
on the drive status and the "Do Not Remove" LED illuminates when the drive is part of
a critical application to reduce the risk of data corruption.
With Gen8, all ProLiant servers have iLO ME standard.
In addition to the remote console, remote power, and virtual media features of prior
generations, there are four key new functional areas added to the new iLO Management Engine.
First, Intelligent Provisioning takes the strengths of products like SmartStart, PSP,
and HP SUM, enhances them with the latest ease of use features and places them where
you can use them immediately, on the system board, thus eliminating the need to keep track
of all those DVDs.
Next, a long-time desire of many of our customers is now available with Gen8, Agentless Management.
Base hardware health monitoring and alerting functions now run directly on the iLO hardware,
independent of the operating system and the processor.
Some server failures can be extremely hard to reproduce. They may escape regular diagnostic
runs and can take a long time to fix. With Gen8's new Active Health System, we offer
an always-on diagnostics system recording constant feeds of telemetry data, configuration
changes, and every alert in order to facilitate a faster root-cause analysis and problem resolution.
Finally, with iLO Management Engine we also offer faster access to HP Insight Remote Support,
HP's 24x7 "phone home" remote support software.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about the HP ProLiant DL360p Gen8 -- the server
with performance driven compute and storage density.
