Teatro Verga of Milan was founded in 1994
as the parish of the Holy Trinity, that owns this theater
asked me to transform it a in real theater
actually, before it was just a Hall which was used rarely
sometimes for parties, sometimes for other small events
and there was not even the lighting system
apart of some cheap lights
the classic festive spotlights that you use for friend's parties.
The request that I received
fascinated me very much because I come from a family of musicians
my dad had a theater in Naples, with a thousand and six hundred seats
and honestly fascinated me very much
though it was a bet very difficult to achieve because it also needed money
and I had no money to invest.
I received the support and the help of some good friends
with whom we have collaborated
some of whom were even very young priests
who believed in this project
to make it, as I had asked,
a theater devoted exclusively to youth, for all of them
that never had a space in the most important realities of our city.
In a few years, let's say approximately from 1998 forward
the theater has gone from his 20/30 shows in a year
to those who then composed a real season
with 120/130 days of show per year
thus giving space for many new projects
and doing the limelight for many young talented artists.
After sixteen wonderful years, although with difficulties
Teatro Verga is likely to close its curtain, forever.
And this is because the new parish priest arrived decided to completely change everything
cancelling the job of twenty years, feeling probably
to make things far more important than what is a cultural project
general and far-reaching.
Closing Teatro Verga's curtain will bring
not only the closure of a place where you can go to entertain yourself
but, the closure of a center that was really the crux
for all of those not only young artists
but even young people with problems.
We worked with the youth malaise
we've got guys who helped us
while managing to overcome their own problems.
We did a lot of culture with the demonstrations as "Follemente"
which deal with problems of mental illiness.
We really did how much more you could not for young people.
Closing this place means closing the life and art of a city.
Today I would like to throw a bottle into the sea of indifference
because I know that the web is a big network
and I'm sure someone will collect our appeal from this network
and will decide to help us.
So please, give us some ideas
tell us how do you think we can react to this abuse.
Help us not to turn blind eyes.
Help us to keep our theater open
to keep the curtain open
to don't switch off the lights on what has been, it is
and wants to continue to be
a place for all young artists in this city and beyond.
