Hi, I'm Oli. This is one minute English from
Oxford Online English. Today's topic: /i/
and /i:/ - pronunciation. So,
/i/ is the sound in words like: ship, live,
and hill. /i:/ is the sound in sheep,
leave and heel, for example. /i/
is a very short relaxed sound.
Open your mouth a little bit, relax
and make the shortest 'i' sound you can:
Ship, live, hill.
Very relaxed, very short.
/i:/ is different, it's a longer sound,
it isn't relaxed like /i/. To say
/i:/ you need to use your muscles. Pull your lips back,
raise your tongue, and make a longer 'eeeee' sound:
sheep, leave, heel.
That's all,
thanks for watching, see you next time. Bye bye!
