>>We do 200 to 300 dolls a year.
>>The ladies who do the real job are putting the legs on it. Sometimes, if you don't
do it right, one's going this way and the other one's that way.
>>Well, it probably takes about 25 hours if you're figuring it from start to finish.
>>[interviewer] Per doll?
>>Per doll.
>>The wilder the hair, the better.
>>I'm good with the scissors. Cut it short enough, you don't have to do anything with
it.
>>I'm into the layered look.
>>They're given to children who seem to be really anxious about what's going to
be happening to them.
>>I have vague memories of a tonsillectomy when I was a child and there were no dollies
given to me.
>>Woo! How do you like this one?
>>I'd like to see their response when they are able to pick one out.
>>[interviewer] Have you ever gotten to see a child playing with the dolls?
>>No. I haven't.
[music]
>>Do do do do do. I think she looks cute.
>>Oh my goodness.
>>It didn't go in.
>>You have to wiggle it a little bit?
Got it. Then we need that other piece.
This one's really pretty.
Look daddy we made her an IV. And I get to take her home.
>>If you can put a smile on a child's face and help alleviate the fear, the anxiety,
discomfort, all those big boogie-men that they face when they're in a hospital and
they're going through some sort of major treatment, if the doll helps, I'm glad to
be able to do that.
>>[interviewer] How come she has pink teeth?
>>She had a popsicle! Rar!
>>Everybody puts their best into it and we enjoy the process. It's just a very happy
feeling around the dolls.
To me, I think we make them with love.
And somehow, children are going to pick up on that.
