Hoping to land a new job?
Running around for official documents?
Whether it’s about your employment history, qualifications, or police record...
CERTIyouth One-stop job accreditation
My company manages a portfolio of over 10,000 workers,
[Mercedes Echenique, Human Resources manager – SILSA, S.A.]
about 80% of them cleaners.
Some 40% of our younger workers get sent out for certification immediately.
We are now planning to manage all our in-house records through CERTIyouth.
It’s wonderful to come here and see the Labour Ministry using CERTIyouth…
[Olga Ortega, Human Resources Manager –Wiener University]
because CERTIyouth provides candidates with a single document
covering all the information they need to apply for a job
without having to make the rounds to collect it.
This certificate shatters the documentation barrier
[Pilar Berrios, Human Resources Manager– TEAL Industries, S.A.]
and is sure to be a great benefit to workers and employers alike.
[Isabel, youth beneficiary] CERTIyouth is a service that helps us get work more quickly
without having to go back to the police each time for proof
we haven’t been in trouble and that sort of thing.
[Julio, youth beneficiary] Another advantage of CERTIyouth is that
a single certificate serves as identification,
sets out your job history and shows that you do not have a criminal record.
It's a time and money saver:
just collecting all the papers companies ask for these days may cost more than $45.
[Edwin, youth beneficiary] It's very helpful because it saves a lot of time:
getting a certificate of good conduct can take 4 or 5 days.
But when somebody wants to give you a job,
they'll want you reporting for work the next day, not a week later.
We in the ILO are particularly pleased
to have been able to join with the Ministry of Labour and Employment Promotion
to come up with an instrument
that will accelerate youth employment
and make all those wishing to enter the labour market more employable.
Looking ahead, I believe that in 2011
we should be able to extend CERTIyouth to other cities and,
above all, integrate the programme into national labour accreditation policy
for the thousands of young people who need it.
Too many of our youth have had to waste man-hours
while employment opportunities pass them by because
while they are out hunting down proof of residence or certificates of good conduct
the employer has already given the job to someone else.
What matters most, in my view, is breaking down the barriers
that keep young people outside the labour market.
[Rebeca Árias, United Nations Resident Coordinator, Peru] These progammes are extremely important
because they help us achieve the millenium development goals,
one of which is to raise the number of young people in work.
The statistics show that young people throughout the world
suffer from higher unemployment rates.
[Marco, young beneficiary] The company, Fibra Fuerte,
asked me for proof of domicile and a certificate of good conduct from the police.
It only took 5 minutes here in the Labour Ministry for them to deliver my certificate
so now, thanks to CERTIyouth,
I can give the company what they asked for.
