it turns out that recently a football player actually yells quarterback by the
name of um...
what is his name patrick weight high-tech wait out has been accused of
sexually assaulting
it will make reported him to university officials
back in september of last year now the reason why this story is relevant and
it's making a lot of headlines today is because of the fact that there has been
very little coverage of the story in fact the elderly news which is the
college newspaper it has a tremendous amount of credibility and legitimacy
people really look up to uh... this newspaper a found out about these
accusations back in september and they decided to completely ignore the story
and not report on in our so now the question is ad
should they have reported on this back in september at as i mentioned the
person who had reported or accused him of *** assault was uh... anonymous
which which makes sense to be honest with you eat if you have been a victim
of *** assault
especially if you're wanting you don't want to out basically be harass as a
result of that especially when it comes to uh... very prominent figure if you
have received some what was the quarterback of the ivy league school
board here's but the ones with the bill to stick to a state that got me most
interested in this is not just that they covered up the story but why they
covered the story
originally in the story that went out was that he was up for an interview in
like one of the last rounds of the rhodes scholarship application process
uh... and it was said at the time that he polled out because he wanted to be
involved in a really important game
and so the narrative for a couple months after that was a he's a stroke figure
who cares more about you know the school in the fans that he doesn't know
his own career uh... and we find out when yall months later that that was all
ish and pulled out because of the investigation of the starting about this
um... alleged *** assault threats you also get this uh...
judges of the covering it up but that they made him out to be this hero and
potentially he might have been involved in a *** assault right exactly so
that the same newspaper then you know back in september that he was accused of
such a horrible thing
writing articles about how the had decided to do about this
interviews so he could participate in this game in lead the team to victory so
they're making amount to be this hero so uh... alex klein cool these a senior at
yale
wrote this really great column about how the yale daily news to the horrible job
at refusing to cover this story or ignoring the story
and he says look it's it's your responsibility to make sure you do
accurate coverage of what's going on
on campus to make the sky seem like he's a hero when in reality he's being
investigated for something very seriously don't know to be honest i
don't know what you're going to have stations there he has been convicted of
anything this is an ongoing investigation so i don't want anyone to
get the wrong idea i think that were accusing him of anything but at the same
time as the student newspaper everyone reads on campus and he really i guess
uh... hold it with a lot of credibility i think nationally is considered to be
one of the most credible long-running student run newspapers exactly they have
a responsibility to report on something like this
yeah so would the part of this that debt
leg as you alluded to in the intro to the story is that this is part of the
ongoing process of these stories coming out after being covered up at yale and
other arab ivy league schools mostly yale about these *** assaults and
the problem is that it paints his picture of the schools being much more
interested in their own reputation the own appearance of you know we're this
elite by the sky ivy league school
and less about the safety or well-being of their students
right definitely and i think that a lot of people bob marley's under the
assumption that ivy league schools are
so reputable that things like this don't happen almost campuses did not have a
discussion about this
uh... you know when you're talking about the bullpen state scandal
and how do you know all that there are ivy league schools that have not similar
situations happening but definitely cases of *** assault
and not kinda brush it under the rug you know yeah and you see this all the time
and cake
i think are the reason why this cycle continues is because it's underreported
in because people wanna you know keep their reputation and make sure that
destroys don't get out there and it's really sad ending
sort of a research they did around the story they revealed that
if people had this idea of a college campus is a sort of a island of safety
in like big cities usually like you know itself is in the middle of the big city
in connecticut
um... but in fact *** assaults are actually the give a higher percentage
chance of being involved in a *** saw on campus than you do off
and so when campuses and when newspapers
do something like this and cover it up it perpetuates a solution of safety that
you know could lead students into situations that they should be in right
exactly and another thing that's really important to mention about the story
obvious quarterback is the same quarterback cool was part of the
fraternity on campus that act chanted these sexist remarks in front of the
sorority notes or even thought yes head to one of those chance was uh...
no means yes in right so you know i think they got punished for that it was
uh... a disastrous story but you know it kinda gives you a little insight into
some of the other things that he's been involved in them and bunning we're gonna
have to wait to find out if he was actually this is actually true or if
they're even going to pursue the investigation but
of radio considering his past in the past the deal with the vote for good
