favorite card magic books
of the twentieth century these are some of the books that
uh... i came up with
the books that i studied uh...
very early magic eight cells only eighteen or nineteen but
these were the very first books that i bought
and studied uh... with just
one exception cover that just a sec
so if you are going to try to learn something about card magic this is where
i would start
uh... it's not a perfect chronological order of how i think you should move the
card magic
by that is a nice uh... beginning middle and in
and so here we go
first place i would start these days uh... is probably
still with the loyalty card magic
a big fan of modern books like card college if i had to start somewhere
i think i would still start with loyal world written by uh... you garden rally
and uh... it's a excellent book
for the beginner highly recommended
so where were the card magic which by the way is available as a dover
paperback pretty expensive and uh...
this is a terrific place to start
here's another dover paperback that i think is a nice place for people to
start
and that's the encyclopedia cartridge
this isn't the also work easier on that very slight infants of magic
like the world world stuff
uh... by the uh... it does have a lot of beginning
cartridge sent out some of the mathematically base
a few than you
usar gas cards couple of them are even use um... some mnemonic system for
instance
psi stephens and the whole system are both in this book
so encyclopaedia cartridge edited by steve you've got it is another action
plans to start
and that is available as a global paperbacks again not a lot of money
uh... invested in my book you get a lot of return
uh... here's another terrific book that i turned to quite frequently it's called
star neon partridge by john starting
uh... these are necessarily his strength although the few of you know that our
kids most of these are just good tricks that he'd collected into this volume
from other quarters
started portraits uh...
is pretty much um...
well again it's not a slight intensive uh... book you know most of these things
are
what we would call today two of our conference tvm semi-automatic
we don't use heavy sleight of hand other major issues of simple setup
or a or minor move no media double that could be the most difficult slight
unified
excellent excellent book and also available in the building reprint
now we get into the books were actually is inside and involves the technique
practice uh... for the evidence lights
the first one is expert card technique
again thank you karen probably this is an absolutely terrific book
it has a lot of material but charlie miller and diverted into the town of
other people
uh... published in the uh... nineteen forties but it's still as fresh today as
it was seventy years ago
this happens to be the third edition which has uh... an extra chapter of the
fact that was a burning building material in it
doctor jacobson that is
but i didn't get the second addition azad over recruit for just a few dollars
another slide intensive book uh... book full of news really is uh... arthur
buckley's heart control
first published privately in nineteen forty-six this is a terrific book
there's just got a ton of great moves into the time i want a little
inspiration
i turned the buckley high throw open the book today here indicating your start
reading always find something i haven't seen for a while and i'm not so it gives
the creative juices flowing so arthur barclays card control a really great
book available as a dover reprint
uh... this next book is one of our work is his favorite books that i was a good
friend of mine and ive always respected out his thoughts on card magic if he
likes the card magic of
paula paul
got to be a good book and indeed it is a great book
uh... card magic apollo paul is not paid over reprint this happens to be a key
robbins
reprints
uh... but it's a excellent book there's a lot of great moves in here there's
even some stuff in here that you might consider
field sort of the beginnings of flourishing there's a lot of uh... fans
and there's a lot of uh...
different types of um...
different types of moves that you wouldn't necessarily put into a uh...
magic tricks necessarily
but there are some really beautiful moves at the deck of cards card magic of
paul paul isn't hopeful
i would recommend
one of the very earliest books that i ever got
uh... is an acknowledged classic external rains
close-up card magic
uh... this book is uh... excellent in my opinion
that's probably the first place that i ever learn the federal shuffle
as well as the overhand job shop uh... futuristic techniques that i use all the
time
uh... carries a lot of great books but this is sort of the one that started it
all for him
close-up card magic five harry lorraine
uh... what book list will be complete without stars of magic
uh... it is not all carter's also point six in the cups and balls and things of
that nature in here
let us was a magic has weather is probably my favorite part first of all
time limit
it's called tried riots effect by diverting and this is the first place it
was published this of course was originally a serial there's a magazine
uh... type format that was mailed out
uh... in the nineteen forties and uh...
than all found on the one cover these days stars a magic is a terrific book
highly encourage you to take a look at it
to another great books that came out uh... well
maybe twenty years or so little bit longer than that uh... from uh... stars
in the city thirty years at the stars of magic
but are just as good
are the complete walton
uh... complete walton comes into volumes volumes wanted to
and uh... this is the magic of world war stop
i can't say enough about the complete walton uh... these books are absolutely
phenomenal and the magic in these covers is a simply sensational
if you don't have the complete walton do yourself a favor
track down these volumes and get them
that exit
domestic oklahoma diverted for a little bit uh... one of his favorite aware
about my favorite books of divers
or his uh... inner card secret religion
and they were originally published likeness and paperback format you have
your secrets more inner secrets
and further in a secret
you can still find them as the individual volumes but evan l publishing
has also published in as a single volume we have the air card trilogy
all three of those books in one volume
excellent series of books a lot of classics in here like uh... oil and
water twisting the aces is in this book
uh... couple of other different things in here that you may have heard about
that hard to cross that bridge hard money
and the trip that cannot be explained or paul in in a car secrets trilogy so
terrific book i highly recommend if you're going to get the aircraft secrets
trilogy you may as well also get a lot of people consider just to be the fourth
volume and that's divers ultimate a hopeless secrets of card magic
it's a great book follows the same format as the uh... inter-party perch
trilogy alphabet rex in here but people other than burned some of his friends
uh... there's an jennings material you know
roger classes got stuff in here lot of other great magicians it's a terrific
book
i like it allowance
let's move on to ed morrow uh... most public publish more card magic than
anyone else in history
but if you had to get just one vote
it would be the new bound additions of his revolutionary karthick p
uh... revolutionary protect it was originally published missus series of
pamphlets i guess you would call them
but these days are all available one hovercraft published by magic a few
years ago
expects coppola recommends this book as the life
a really really great book
full of material to keep you busy for many years
uh... here's a book that a lot of people have overlooked all the pros though
about not always about hope none of them are upset that i mention it
it's called the fine art of magic art kaplan
this is not not just the card magic brokers some stuff in here other than
card magic dot
united at our world tricks and you've got a mind reading trip to the point
tricks and handkerchief tricks and things of that nature
but the card magic stuff is absolutely superb
i highly recommend that you are
take the time and effort to track this down but it's not available as a reprint
it and i have to find a first addition
and they can be pretty pricey if it's kind of dust jacket like this on it
uh... sometimes in the neighborhood of a hundred dollars or more but it's worth
every penny if you like great magic paso there's another vote for george
chaplains the fine art of magic
last but not least will talk about a book that i don't necessarily recommend
to beginners
anyone that's trying to move past the beginner staging card magic absolutely
custody this
and of course i'm talking about my favorite book
next door to the card table bypass the viewers names please that's the name of
the guys newsweek published a book
originally published in nineteen oh two uh... this is the facsimile first
edition that came out a few years ago
uh... but the truth is any additional do because i love you should be after
as a beginner is just the information
um...
bilkul luce has several great addition facilities conjuring arts um... research
library website
and uh... you know there's other places that you get the expert at the party
i don't consider any books for a while beginner but it's absolutely book you
have to read
if you ever hope to progress beyond that stage
so i want more vote for the expert at the card table
like we needed another vote for that book
probably the best book i've ever read on overall car camping technique especially
when you consider the period that it was written
i hope that they get a little bit of insight into what some of my favorite
magic books card magic books anyway uh... of the twentieth century are
and i hope you are the little something there and we'll see you next time thanks
a lot
