Fighting For Our Homes
I'm Penny Saldovar from Houston, Texas. Um, I have four boys. I've been in my house for two years going on three.
Uh, and I am three months behind on my payments.
Interviewer: "And what problems have you encountered, and how difficult is it?"
Well, I've had problems since Hurricane Ike. We had a tree fall on my house.
I lost the pation, we have roof damage. The insurance company...
the repair cost is about $30,000. We had foundation problems, the insurance company only issued me, um...
supposedly then the cost is $13,000, they gave me a check for $2000 and then I have another check for another $2000
and a deductible for $6500. So that leaves me in a whole. I haven't been able to make my payment since then
Trying to keep my house is my goal. I want to modify my contract
It's uh, I'm paying $1700 per month on my house
opposed to what I was paying last year which was $900 dollars.
Interviewer: "And if there was one thing that you could change, what would that be?"
I would actually pay attention to what I'm signing.
And make sure that they actually follow up on what is on paper. Because I do have, I was supposed to have an escrow account from the beginning.
And they didn't add it till two years later so I'm paying for three years at once.
Interviewer: "and at this point how does your future look?"
Grim. It really looks tough for me and my boys.
Interviewer: "Why are you willing to homestead, stay in your home after being evicted, and what is your plan to gain?"
It's...I'm willing to do almost anything to keep my boys in a good position. In a good home.
Uh, they're four, and it's hard for us.
