I've been producing media and advertising projects since nineteen seventy and some of
them have had major social impact in the areas where they've run. the last four years I've
dedicated to working with medical research and science projects and finding better ways
to communicate what is really happening. But you know and I know that funding has become
very tight for this kind of activity still visible. should mention that all of these
are labeled by the green fluorescent protein being localized to the nucleus. Researchers
around the world are asking and need help in improving and speeding up the communication
that they have between themselves and to the public about these new and important findings
that they are getting every day. targets very, very well the FGF10 positive cells over time
so in the future we want to study uhh the lineage commitment of these FGF10 positive
cells over time so by manipulating these cells by, for example by increasing Win signaling
or FG signaling in these cells... We are asking you to share with us in helping those researchers
do that. (music) How did I get interested in this? Well my Grandfather, Jonathan N.
Rucker, M.D., graduated from medical school in nineteen fourteen he was serving in the
US Army at the end of World War I in France. (music) And my Father graduated from Medical
School in nineteen forty two and just like my Grandfather, serving his community was
his mission taking care of all the people who were in that community even if it meant
paying out of his own pocket for their medicine for even their gas bill if that was what it
took to keep their houses warm so their kids could stay healthy and we have the same needs
today. And that's why Randall Wetzel, the acclaimed Anaesthesiology, critical care physician
started MUCMD. Ultimately what you do with it affects people's lives and finally, after
twelve years, what I'm most excited about how we apply machine learning techniques and
advanced computational techniques to really analyze the data in a dispassionate, unbiased
way to see what all of that information, I'm sorry, what all of that data can tell us about
how critically critical illness happens to children. Every researcher and clinician in
the country who has an interest in MUCMD should be able to be present personally or virtually
and this is part of what we want to do. There are others as well. Combine this using a very
simple mathematical algorithm that would then predict based on three hours of data which
infant we think downstream is going to have a difficult time in the ICU. Now why is this
useful? This could be very useful. For example, if you see that an infant is doing really
poorly or is going to be doing really poorly downstream you could send them to a higher
level of care. Researchers like to Suchi Saria have real clinical data that needs to be shared
with other clinicians immediately as quickly as possible and we want to make it possible
for researchers like Dr. Saria to share that clinical information to share these new findings
just as quickly as possible so we want to make this happen but we want it to happen
faster and we want to make it more accessible to everybody. It's absolutely urgent that
we work together to communicate the real science thats taking place today around the world.
Thank you for taking the time to listen to what we have and to take time to look at the
materials that we put together and we certainly look forward to hearing from you soon.
