I just want to finish college
and have a job before I have a baby. As far as my family comes
I'm looking to have at least a house or,
or duplex or something like that before I have a child or something. You know, now I'm in college so I
think about, you know, I'm not trying to have another kid until I'm done with that, you know
until I'm actually having a career going on. Over 40% actually of young adults 18
to 29 years old, end up having unintended pregnancies
And this is an age group that we're most concerned with because that just leaves
additional challenges down the road both for the children and for the parents. And we really
hope that by bringing this issue to the forefront by getting everyone to talk about it
that it won't be a taboo subject anymore and actually people can make decisions learn
more, get armed with the right tools they need to make the right decisions down the road.
Because if you don't talk about it, then you don't know what to do and you don't how you feel
about it. I have a daughter, she's five, but if I would have that talk,
you know, I would have probably would have planned it out.
Maybe stayed in school and.... Money's not,
our money's not looking that good, you know what I'm saying, so there's not enough room
for another kid, you know what I'm saying, so
we have a conversation about that all the time, so.
So this is 70%
of young adults in Colorado have looked for ways to prevent pregnancies online. Ok.
So it makes perfect for us to provide this information here today.
4 out of every 10 pregnancies that happen to someone are to
someone that didn't mean for it to happen. And you know this can have some serious consequences
on the family, the kids, and even later on in life with child
developments. And Beforeplay.org they want to give the resources to young Coloradoans
to, you know, have a better future, have a better health.
Uhh... I definitely talk about my kids a lot. I really
want to be a mom. Definitely. I talk about it with my friends and my
mom. I am very open with my family. Uh, they know that I've been on birth control
for several years. And my fiance and I, before we,
back when we were just boyfriend and girlfriend, before we had sex, I made him get STD
tested and we talked about birth control. Mad props to you guys, that is so good!
They need to know it, they don't know, you know, they're not educated.
Education is power.
