In this video we will take a look at how to perform a Bare Metal Recovery
with CA ARCserve D2D r16.
In order to start a bare metal recovery
you'll need either the CA ARCserve D2D bootkit on a flash drive and a Windows
installation media
or the D2D bare metal recovery .iso image burned to a disk.
Boot the machine on which you want to perform BMR using either of the two
methods.
and then you'll be prompted to choose either the x86 (32 bit) or x64
architecture.
Once you've selected the type of installation required
it will launch a thin version of Windows which will allow you to access
the CA ARCserve D2D bare metal recovery console.
Selected necessary language and keyboard layout and then click next.
ARCserve D2D initializes.
Select the first option to perform bare metal recovery.
Once the CA ARCserve D2D console launches
it will search for any backup sets on the local server.
If it locates any backup sets on a local volume
it will automatically show the recovery points on the console.
if there are no local backups sets found or you wish to search for backups
sets on the network you can hit the browse button.
You can find any backup sets on a network location by either the hostname
or IP address and then click on the arrow to authenticate and connect to the
network location.
Once the name of the server is selected,
it will automatically populate the recovery points which are in the network location.
If you fail to browse the remote location it may be because the network
drivers not installed or the IP address is incorrect.
You can launch the load driver utility to install the necessary network card
driver.
Select the network device and then click install driver.
You can then browse to the appropriate location for the device driver.
You may need to add the necessary driver files from a USB stick or a locally
attached CD or DVD drive, especially if you're performing BMR to
dissimilar hardware
Once the network drivers are loaded and the IP address is correct,
browse to the network location, select a recovery point to be used for the BMR,
and click on Next to start loading the BMR information.
There are two different types of recovery - Advanced and Express.
First let's take a look at Express.
If you select the express mode and click Next, ARCserve D2D will initialize the
disk partitions, checking for a primary partition which is greater than or
equal to the total size of the partition that was backed up.
Here on the Submit Disk Changes screen it will display a summary of the selected
operations.
For each new volume being created the corresponding information is displayed.
Once the disk partitions are initialized
you are given a summary of the volume restore settings.
Please note that if you restore dynamic disks
they can only be restored at the disk level, not at the volume level.
Confirm you restore settings and then click OK to continue.
Once the recovery is done click on Next to continue.
Now let's take a look at the Advanced mode.
This mode may be used especially in cases when you recover to dissimilar
hardware,
where you may have a different number and size of discs,
and you need to map those disks to the originally backed up disks and volumes.
After the initialization you'll be able to see the source and destination disk
drives.
The primary partition size for the destination should be greater than or
equal to that of the source volume.
The upper pane shows the volume layout of the current destination disk of the
machine which we are recovering.
The lower pane shows the original source disc, which represents a complete
backup of the system which we are recovering.
You can resize the destination volume if necessary
by right clicking on the primary partition.
If you make any changes here, they cannot be reset once those changes are
committed.
Click Next to continue.
here again we see the submit disk changes screen, displaying a summary of
the selected operations.
For each new volume being created the corresponding information is displayed.
When you verified that the summary information is correct, click Submit.
And once again you are given a summary of the volume restore settings.
Click OK to continue.
The recovery progress looks just like the express group.
We can uncheck automatically reboot system after recovery if you need to collect
the BMR logs after the recovery for troubleshooting.
And now we can collect to BMR logs and click on Reboot to finish the
recovery,
and start the server for the first time.
