Hi, my name is Emily Valencia and I am a senior art education student here at Western Illinois. I just
want to share a few things about why I love being here. One great thing I love about the art education
program here is the small class sizes. You really become a family with who you are with because that
is who you spend most of your time with, it is who you share your ideas with and it is a really wonderful
inviting and encouraging environment. And that is definitely one of the things I truly, truly love here.
Another thing that is great is while you are taking your art education courses you are also in the studio.
So you are growing yourself as an artist, but at the same time you are getting the skills to become a
future educator. The last thing I really love about Western is the awesome opportunities I have had
to get into the classroom and to get into the classroom early as a teacher. My second semester
here we taught our first lesson in a school. Which how awesome is that to really get out there and get
a feel for everything. It is just really, it is just a great opportunity. It is my second year here.
I'm a senior and we are teaching at two different schools, different lessons, it is just all around
a great place to be and I definitely would recommend it to any student who is interested in going into
the art education field. Thanks!
