My name is Yoshimoto Oikawa
the President and CEO in Universal Brains Limited, here in Tokyo.
Today I'd like to speak about the organizational culture of the Japanese entities and Anglo-American entities
difference in conditions difference in
various kind of things.
I'm just drawing some picture
to show what is the difference between the Japanese entities and Anglo-American
type of
entities
overseas.
The foreigners
feel some difficulties to understand what's going on and organizational culture
in Japanese companies because it's
quite invisible.
it's quite difficult for foreigners to understand what's going on
inside the Japanese organization.
You know why? because IT IS
INVISIBLE.
Underneath the surface,
beneath the surface, we need to recognize what's going on
by using this framework.
In Japanese entities, we have some...
we are valuing the spontaneous consensus we call it in Japanese "Wa"
the harmony of the people
without paying the stress upon the strategic direction.
To the contrary, the Anglo-American type of entity is focusing on very strategic position
and the direction.
In this case, it's a totally different idea
therefore...
when the Japanese companies like to become more globalized
they like to pay more attention to what's going on on the Anglo-American type of entities
from the organizational culture point of view.
The direction
of the
doing the business inside the workplace
is quite horizontal in Japanese entities.
To the contrary, Anglo-American entity's strategic direction is
so strong, that's why the vertical direction always takes place.
so it's quite different.
But in Japan,
the human resource
department power is
quite strong, stronger than the line manager which is very important point
so the point of Japanese company's organization culture is located here
with high potential power of human resource department and spontaneous consensus in the
workplace.
To the contrary, Anglo-American's is here
the very strong power of the line managers
less strong
less power of human resource department with the stronger part
of the direction of the vertical
strategic point of view.
that is the very important
point of the difference in organizational culture
which is the
quite different way, quite opposite way.
so that it's quite important for the foreigners,
for the expats to understand
This is it!
so therefore you need to know
which is so different from
your own home country's practice
of the
organizational culture
this is the very point you like to start with as the understandings
beneath the surface
pre-factual point
of the organizational culture in Japan.
That's the point.
If you have something to be clarified further please let me know and I'll be
very happy to
advise you what's going on further and depth.
Thank you very much.
