Hey, we're some of the editors and writers of Brickwork. Brickwork is a new progressive
magazine for the Miami/Oxford community, and we started this because we didn't feel like
there was a good source for progressive writing in our community.
In mid-November we printed 100 copies of our first issue, and then we're coming back spring
semester and we'll have eight issues total, an issue every two weeks, and we'll be offering
a subscription for a reduced cost.
We really wanted to give local people the chance to have full creative control about
what they want to write about and see in their publications.
We're independently funded and independently printed. We're doing the whole printing processes
ourselves just right from an apartment.
Here at Brickwork, we're looking for just about anything that you're interested in submitting.
We take art, we take photography, any kind of writing you'd like to see published, pretty
much if it's something you wouldn't see published elsewhere (or even if you would), we'd love
to have it.
So I had an idea for an article about breast cancer awareness and activism that doesn't
really work, and I didn't really feel like any of the publications on campus - I didn't
feel like I could submit it to them.
We're looking at creative ways to sort of get this out to you guys, with subscriptions,
and leaving them in coffee shops and even selling them on street corners if we have
to.
We're really looking for underrepresented opinions and viewpoints that you might not
see in other Miami publications, and if you feel like your voice isn't being heard in
Oxford, we'd love to have you writing for us.
