Why do I need a Life Coach?
Do you need to get things accomplished?
Do you need
to be able to follow through? Do you need to overcome procrastination? Do you need
to do something different than you're currently doing? How would it be
if basically stayed the same as you are right now until you died?
This is Sherry Prindle from the Certified Coaches Federation and would
you believe you have a mechanism in your subconscious mind
that's in control eighty five to ninety percent of the time that is charged with
your survival? Only it's kind of a primitive part of your mind, the
unconscious
limbic system, you can look it up
but that part of your mind is
actually invested in your staying the same
that part of your mind doesn't know what's good for you what's bad for you; all it
knows is that you're alive right now, which means
nothing you've done so far has killed you,
and so the goal of that part of your brain is to keep you the same as you are
right now until you die.
It is your
comfort zone, your survival mechanism, and so the reason that we all need some kind
of coaching
is that that part of our brain is really adept at doing its job. That part of
your brain
will constantly be chattering in your head saying
that you shouldn't try anything new, saying
that you're not good enough and you won't be able to do it.
All of that just to keep you the same,
and the problem is a lot of times we have a hard time distinguishing when it
is that part of my brain that talking to me and when it is that really inspired
voice you have been listening to. So a coach can really help you to step back and
like you know sometimes it is too close to things
and you can't do anything about it 'cause you're just too close to know
what to do
so acoach helps give you that kind of perspective so that you can see things
in a different way. As a matter of fact, one of the things we teach in our
life coach certification is actually the language that that voice in your head
uses when he speaks to you called meta models, and you'd be amazed that
when you know what those are how easy it becomes
to circumvent that part of your mind
and basically thank it for, you know, helping keep you surviving
as overriding it with the logical conscious mind the can actually discern
what's good for you and what's bad for you
I would like you to think about something you have accomplished in life
that you wanted to change and did
versus think of something else that you really wanted to do or maybe a continues
to be something really wanna do this
and you're still not doing it
and i'd like to ask yourself really look what is the difference between the thing
that you managed to get yourself to do and the one you didn't
and I would challenge that the difference mostly was
that either you had some accountability bikes someone or something
that was a consequence of doing or not do anything
or to you had some kind of structure
like a specific action plan,
it was all laid out for you and nice and clear in working others before you
get it done it and you knew that you could do it
or perhaps a third thing that may have been in place was but there was just
pissed huge strong desire and motivation
that was able to circumvent
that subconscious part of your mind
and any case like curtis provide all of those things and
one of the best course as you can take for yourself
is of course that teaches you
to help other people
cell the chatter in your voice is in your in your head the voice in your head
is just trying to keep it the same to keep you safe
remember that that voice in your head is pretty primitive anyone i'll listen to
it for safety's sick
and you also want to recognize that you
had a conscious mind that knows more
and make sure it take control of that
