BRITISH GAS WINTER HEROES STORY 3 – IAN AND DAVID
Ian Gibson I'm a Service & Repair Engineer so I'll go
out, service boilers and repair them as and when. November, December, I've never known
anything like it,it's been really cold. We got the call, it was a GA call at night. She
phoned in, she had a burst in the night. She had no heating, no hot water, no running water
to the property, electric was turned off. She was genuinely scared.
Violet Edwards It woke me up, half asleep, like. So I thought
whatever is it? I felt my head and it was coming through the electric light. Oh, God...
Ian Gibson It was a cold mains pipe in the loft so the
first thing I do was cap the water off, put the kettle on for her and just have a cup
of tea to warm her up a bit. The carpet was sopping but it was also starting to freeze
inside, it was that cold.
Violet Edwards Shaking with shock.
Ian Gibson You just couldn't have left her in that situation
and so then I phoned my Service Manager, Dave Adams.
David Adams We thought we'd better start to get some things
together to organise her so that at least she can be comfortable. Christmas was only
a few days away.
Ian Gibson I went to get her some bedding, some dry bed
clothes.
David Adams Some food, some milk, bread, that type of
thing. So we then ran round to try and find a dehumidifier or two that we could get and
put in the customer's house to try and get some of the damp out.
Ian Gibson One of those jobs which genuinely did upset
me. Yeah, I couldn't stop thinking about it.
Violet Edwards They were very, very good. They were, really.
I don't think you'd find two like them.
Ian Gibson We spend a lot of time with her now and I
hope that she will tell other people and that's hopefully what British Gas is all about.
