Hey everyone this is Chad from GadgetGuruHD.com and in this video we'll be going over some
of our top ten basic tips and tricks for the new HTC One M8. While some of you more polished
Android users may recognize some of these tips, chances are you'll learn at least three
or more things that will up the functionality of your new device. Be sure to stick around
till the end of the video and if you enjoy, remember to subscribe.
The first tip we'll be showing you guys is how to change your homescreen. The easiest
way to do this is by long holding the screen. Then choose home screen and wallpaper, and
then navigate to the area of choice to set the homescreen. In my case I'll use the preset
HTC wallpapers and click a nice a grassy background. You can also choose live wallpapers which
will drain more battery but still looks amazing.
Tip number two is adding apps and widgets to the home screen. Like before we'll long
hold the screen, but this time we'll click on "add apps and widgets". Upon tapping we'll
be greeted with all of our applications. Here we can scroll through them and long hold each
one and drag it onto the homescreen of choice. There's also a nice search icon just in case
you can't find the app your looking for. The process is also identical with widgets. Just
this time tap on apps and under the drop down tap on widgets.
The third tip we'll be showing off is how to add and remove homescreens on the M8. Again
just do a simple long hold and now we'll press add and remove homescreens. Here we can add
unnecessary home screens and also change which one is our main screen. The main screen is
the one that the M8 navigates to upon pressing the home button. Just click remove to remove
and swipe all the way to the right to add.
And for tips four through six we'll be demonstrating everything you'll need to know about the app
drawer and how to customize it to your taste. First we'll show how to hide and unhide apps.
The main reason for this is because of carrier bloatware like the default verizon messaging
app and others that come preinstalled. So to the first step is tapping the three little
dots on the top right hand corner on the app drawer and then click hide/unhide apps. Next
check the apps you want to hide and then tap done.
Next is what order the apps will be displayed in. Alphabetical, most recently used, or custom.
You can choose this by navigating to the app drawer and tapping the top left hand side
where you'll find a drop down bar and then you can choose the order of your choice.
You may have already noticed that my app drawer is actually 4x5 rather than the default 3x4.
The 3x4 ratio doesn't do justice to the M8's 5inch display so you can easily change that
by tapping on the top right hand three dots and click on grid size and then 4x5.
Motion Launcher is pretty darn convenient. It lets you unlock the device by simply picking
it up and swiping in a direction of choice. I'm not going to walk through every little
bit of it, but you can find all the controls in the settings, then navigate to display
and gestures and motion launch gestures. There you can identify all the different controls
such as swiping up to unlock, double tapping to unlock, and more.
Most people Iknow that have the m8 don't realize all the motion launcher features. So the next
thing that we're going to demonstrate here is how to adjust the toggles and if you haven't
already gotten to the quick toggles then you can do that by swipe down from the top of
the screen and then press that button on the top right hand corner and then you activate
all of your different toggles. So as you can see here I'm able to adjust the brightness,
turn on and off wifi, but another cool thing that you can do is actually change which toggles
are actually there. So just go ahead and press that little pen or drawing utility right there
on the top of the device and here you can swipe around and choose which toggles to display.
