>> Lisa: My name is Lisa Dean.
I'm an engineer and I work for the Missile Defense Agency.
When I graduated college with an engineering degree,
I knew I didn't want to do, I guess, a typical engineering job.
When I learned about MDA,
I learned about what their mission is: to defend our country
and to defend our troops and our allies. And I knew
that that was something that would motivate me to get up
and go to work every day.
The challenge that MDA has is a big one;
it's a very complex problem.
We're trying to defend against missiles
and it’s essentially shooting a bullet with a bullet.
But we're always looking at new technologies.
We're always looking at the cutting edge to find
out how can we make it better, how can we improve? Because it is
such a hard problem, you have to have a lot
of smart minds working well together.
The MDA is very supportive of diversity.
I noticed that in my class that came in
for the Career Development Program
that there was representation of a lot of women
and minority groups, and it was very clear
that the MDA wanted to support that.
I definitely think that what I do makes a difference
and makes an impact.
I think it’s fulfilling work, and when I leave at the end
of the day, I feel like I've accomplished something
and that's what I really need to feel satisfied in a job.
