One of the questions I'm commonly asked is:
Why don't men go through Menopause? Well in actual fact,
men do go through their own version of Menopause; it's called
Andropause and it's associated with hormone deficiency.
As we age, our hormone levels decline
and when they go below a critical level
women will go through Menopause and men will go through Andropause.
Now, some symptoms associated with Menopause are:
In Andropause, the symptoms are a little different.
Men start to notice:
There are also many symptoms that you may not be aware of.
Internally, our body's function
becomes compromised as testosterone and growth hormone levels decline.
The only way to know for sure is to get your hormone levels tested.
Basically, treatment and diagnosis is very simple.
It starts by you making an appointment to see an integrative doctor.
We have a list of integrative doctors that we recommend on our website.
The doctor will then ask for you to go and do
a hormone test - either a blood test or a saliva test.
Once the doctor gets the results, they will prescribe
an appropriate hormone treatment tailored to your needs.
The next step is to get the prescription filled at a compounding pharmacy.
The difference between a compounding pharmacy and a regular pharmacy
is a compounding pharmacy will make your medication
from its raw ingredients and they can customize
your dosage accordingly. With hormone treatment
the options available are: capsules;
a transdermal cream (which is a cream that
passes through the skin into the bloodstream);
in some cases an injection may be required.
This is something that you'll need to speak to doctor about.
This process is repeated every three months
depending on the doctor, so that they can
monitor your hormone levels and
tweak any changes that are required until
you reach a stable hormone level.
So, how quickly does it work and what can you expect?
Firstly, you'll start to notice the effects within about two weeks.
What you can expect initially is an increase in energy levels
and you'll start to notice things like
increased clarity; your memory and recall will improve;
most men will notice an increase in muscle mass;
and a decrease in their fatty tissue (or adipose tissue).
Internally, your body will start to become regenerative
when your hormone levels are restored back to that of a healthy 25-year-old
and that will start to reverse a lot of the damage
which is done over the years.
It's important to note that it's never too late start.
The sooner you can begin treatment, the sooner you can reverse
general wear-and-tear of age on the body.
