Hey guys Liam here from Tekbloggers.com and today I have a review of the Nokia Lumia 920.
(intro) The Lumia 920 is Nokia's current flagship
Windows Phone smartphone and has some unique features that other competitors don't have.
I'm going to split the review up into the sections then have my final thoughts at the
end. Build
The first thing you will notice about the Nokia Lumia 920 is the bulk. The phone isn't
as a thin as other devices, but it sure is heavier.
It is 130.3mm tall, 70.8mm wide and 10.7mm thick. It weighs an impressive 185g and comes
in some bright colours. It is constructed out of a unibody polycarbonate shell that
is a nice change if you are used to Samsung's plastic approach or Apple's aluminium design.
The left of the phone is completely bare. The top of the phone features a Micro-SIM
slot, a 3.5mm headphone/mic jack and a noise cancelling microphone. The right side has
a volume rocker, lock button and a dedicated camera button. This is a great addition as
the Lumia 920's camera is incredible. The base of the phone features a micro-USB
slot and two ok speakers. The back of the phone features a dual-LED flash, Nokia/Carl
Zeiss branding and a 8.7 megapixel camera. The front of the phone features an earpiece
grill, a front-facing camera and Nokia branding. The base of the 4.5inch display has three
capacitive buttons, a back button, start button and search button.
Display Nokia has spent a lot of time and effort on
creating an amazing display on the Lumia 920. It is a 4.5inch IPS LCD 'PureMotion+' display
with a somewhat low 768x1280 resolution. It has a 15:0 aspect ratio so you will see some
borders when watching movies, but this doesn't get in the way. The colour reproduction on
the display is good and it is quite bright even on the lowest setting. It works great
indoors and out, and the touchscreen is very responsive. It also works with gloves, which
is a killer feature. Camera
The Lumia 920's camera is by far the best smartphone camera I've used. It carries the
'PureView' name and it doesn't disappoint. The camera does excel over competitors in
two areas. The first is low-light photography. If you are out at night or in a dimly lit
restaurant, the 920's imaging capabilities will come into use. Photos look great, however
you may want to snap a few extra as the camera's focusing is unpredictable.
The second is image stabilisation. We shot side-by-side videos with the Lumia 920 and
iPhone 5, and the difference is striking. Nokia has suspended the Lumia 920's optical
assembly using little springs that absorb that slight movement when you press the shutter
button and the results are incredible. If you don't have a steady hand or you like to
take a lot of video, you will love the Lumia 920's cameras.
However, on the device I tested, the front-facing camera had a slight blue tint to it which
made the camera unusable in certain situations. Software
The Nokia Lumia 920 comes with Windows Phone 8, Microsoft's latest mobile operating system
that ships with many improvements. Nokia has packed the phone with a small number
of apps that make the phone different to other WP8 handsets. The Lumia 920 comes with popular
Nokia apps including Nokia Drive, Nokia Maps and Nokia Music.
The Windows Phone 8 app store is rather bleak, you won't see many titles, but popular apps
like Twitter, Facebook and Angry Birds are in there.
Performance/Battery Life The Lumia 920 features a Dual-core Snapdragon
S4 processor which offers some speedy browsing and smooth animations. It can take pretty
much anything you throw at it and works very well.
The battery life is great. If you are a heavy user, the Nokia Lumia 920 can last an entire
day without a recharge. Final Thoughts
The Nokia Lumia 920 is a solid smartphone that works well and looks quite unique. If
you are willing to try out Windows Phone 8, then go with Lumia 920. The cameras and display
are incredible and well worth the price. The bundled apps and specifications give Nokia
a slight edge over the Windows Phone 8 competition. The lack of a micro-SD card slot can be overlooked
by the 32GB internal memory.
