And now it's time for our arts and culture update with Yim Yoonhee live in the studio.
Good afternoon Yoonhee.
Goodafternoon. Spring time is upon us.
During this season, you tend to see a shift in the performances and exhibitions.
This is the season of new flowers---and sometimes new faces.
But, it goes without saying that there is much to learn from our seniors and those who
are ahead of us.
Right. Now the stage would be an excellent place to learn from your mentor.
People can have raw talent but there's always that advantage of haveing experience under
your belt.
Korea's musical and play scene is always seeing new faces, but sometimes it's the performance
of the veteran actor that's needed to fill the role.
They have more experience and more control. Today I have a couple plays that proves just
how valuable an experienced actor is. Let's take a look.
[PACKAGE] Out with the old and in with the new...but
sometimes that's not always the best idea. With age comes more experience and wisdom.
Veteran actor YOO In-chon hasn't been on the stage for 9 years. He served as the Minister
for the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and is now coming back to theater as to share
his experiences and knowledge.
Yoo plays the role of an old racehorse, in Tolstoy's "Strider: the Story of a Horse."
He uses his years of musical acting experience to capture the hearts of the audience as the
altruistic horse, alongside his greedy and selfish owner.

"Fundamentally, a play needs to reflect life, like a mirror. This play is a textbook example
of a respectable play which is why I chose it as my first piece back on the stage."
But the theater isn't always meant for the young and restless.
This play is directed at a more mature audience. In 2012, it was a box office success, entertaining
the crowds with a humorous plot those in their 40s and 50s could easily relate to.
This romantic love comedy is back on the stage, starring another veteran actor Cho Jae-hyeon.
At the National Theater of Korea, this play captures the heart of the old and young.
"Me, My Father, and Courage" is the story of a liver cancer patient, and his aim to
live out his life, as he comes to terms with his terminal condition.
Actor Shin Gu has been in the business for over 50 years, so his years of experience
are perfect for expressing the conflicted emotions of this character.

"There's a saying that for someone to live their life, they have to be walking towards
an end. As I become more involved with this performance, I began to understand that saying."
