>> Court: This is the updated Volton Alation 500, it's a pretty sweet bike, it is sold by
guy Joe out of Chicago nice guy mostly online but I'm here at the electric bike superstore
in San Francisco and they've got a few of these in stock. The really cool thing about
this is it's got a geared 500 watt rear hub motor right there, its powered by a 48 volt,
10.4 amp hour battery pack that's build right into that down tube, so it's a pretty solid bike
in terms of power and torque and you've got that nice front shock absorber, so all around
this bike is pretty you know, all inclusive, nice kick stand there, a lot of mountain bike
don't have kick stands and frankly I was riding this bike around for quite a while, using
it to get around the city, it's nice to have that and then in that kind of riding condition
the front shock, it just helps you with potholes and curves and stuff and speed bumps, so it's
a really sweet bike, I love the fact that it's got front and rear fenders, the front
one is a little bit short but that means that your feet aren't going to hit it when your
pedaling, kind of bump it, that happens a lot of times, these are 26 inch wheel so a
little bit smaller but that works well with the leverage in terms of giving you torque
on the rear hub motor so you know, it's kind of nice. Also a few of the updates that I
want to discuss that they've done since the last review, they've extended this rear fender
and you can see its got little support arms there and that's nice, it's going to keep the rooster tail
off your back and got that updated light right here really bright attached right here to
the front shocks of this front fork and so it's not going to like bounce around or anything
like some other lights were it is mounted to the fender. They've added this nice rubber
seal around the battery cover so it doesn't rattle, It stays a lot more securely and if
you remember on the last review I put tape on It to kind of hold it down, you don't have
to really do that anymore. Electronics, everything are very similar and I really like this set
up here, it's got five modes of pedal assists, so 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 giving you different amounts
of power; more power as you go up the scale and it's got a twist throttle, I love the
fact that you can use both, you can actually use them simultaneously, pedaling along you
getting a little bit of help and then gun it and get that extra boost for going up a hill or
starting at a stop sign that kind of thing. First you've got the Tektro pretty standard
brakes here, brake levers but they operate these nice disc brakes and I think overall
with the pedals and everything, this bike comes with quite a few higher end features
for being sort of a more affordable type of electric bike and it works well, I love the
fact that the weight is distributed more evenly across the frame, it's not like a Prodeco or
something where its hanging off the back, it's low to the ground, it's built on the
frame. So let me just hop on this thing and take it for a little test ride and you can
kind of listen for that motor action, got a pedal assist mode 5 right now
and this thing just flies. So you know, I'm down here in San Francisco, if your climbing
hills and stuff it's nice to have that extra juice and a gear hub motor of 500 watt, 48
volt battery, that's not too bad, it works pretty well. If you want to learn more about
this bike see pictures and get the full rate and review, checkout electricbikereview.com,
I'll see you there. My first review of this model was done in 2012, I actually had the
bike shipped to me and I did an unboxing and I spent more time talking about what it's
like to buy an ebike online, I even took it off road, so you can find that video on YouTube,
I'm going to try and link it here but it is titled "2012 Volton Alation 500 review", I
think you'll enjoy it.
