Chris: Hi, I'm Chris.
Dave: And I'm Dave, and we're here today at the Crutchfield studio to take a closer look
at the Yamaha RX-V863 home theater receiver.
Chris: This is a great piece for all your movies, music, video games and TV shows, isn't
it, Dave?
Dave: That's right, Chris. It's quite advanced. It has lots of video capabilities as well,
including 3 HDMI inputs for your high def sources. And lots of inputs for your other
video sources as well. And it even offers up-conversion for video to 1080p resolution.
Chris: Which is the highest they go now, so...
Dave: That's right, so even your older analog sources can look nice and crisp on your, on
your high def TV.
Chris: Right, a standard DVD player or just even your cable box and regular TV programming
look crisper and cleaner and come through really nicely.
Dave: That's right and it also can, sends everything out to your high def TV with a
single HDMI cable for a more streamlined hook up to your system.
Chris: That's fantastic. So what about the sound? How does it sound?
Dave: Yamaha receivers are famous for their sound quality, and this receiver's no exception.
This 863 is very nicely made and offers really great surround sound, including some of the
newest high resolution surround sound as well. Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD MasterAudio surround
sound for that really immersive kind of surround, that makes you feel like your right in the
movie theater.
Chris: That's awesome. I know it also has a couple of really great options for your
music. There's a built-in HD radio tuner, right? So you can pick up all the local channels
that are doing the digital programming that lots of stations are doing now and sounds
way better than it ever did. And then you can also get one of these optional YDS-11
iPod docks and hook it up with one cable and listen to all your favorite music.
Ralph: Right and the dock also allows you to put pictures and videos from your iPod
into your system as well, so you can watch them on your TV. Yep, and listen to your music
stored on there and that great Yamaha sound. And there you have it.
Chris: And there you have it. That's the Yamaha RX-V863.
