- So what do you think about all this?
- It's horrible!
Here we are at a local primary school in Chichigalpa.
The smoke is coming up over here.
Breathing is somewhat hard. The gas is all coming over here.
And it is affecting the childrens environment.
Well, what I'm saying is that this happens once a year.
Every time they burn the cane down there.
But, before they used to do it when the school was in session.
At whatever time. But now, after all the requests that were made,
they only do it at night or during weekends.
- But today is Tuesday, right?
- Well, yeah, today is Tuesday. So I wouldn't be able to tell you
why they burned it. Actually, the cane from over here they took already.
I believe it's the cane from over there.
They got other cane areas over there.
- But that's also affecting the children.
- Yeah, yeah. It's affecting them.
I just wouldn't be able to tell you why they burned it.
But let me tell you something straight from my heart:
I prefer this smoke compared to when they spray pesticides.
Because when they go spraying, we receive that poison here for 2-3 days.
- And how dos that affect the kids?
- Well, when they spray this super strong poison, one feels somewhat desperate.
- The kids have respiratory problems after the burnings and sprayings?
- That I wouldn't be able to tell you.
But yeah, there are cases of flu.
And the process of spraying gives us a headache.
That's why I talked to Rosita, the responsible for medical issues.
And she gave me pills against the headache.
I'm telling you, that I prefer this smoke, because the
spraying affects us more.
It just takes a little while, and the wind - boom.
But the spray affects us even if it's the areas way over there.
Because that same wind brings it over here.
And lately, the company has started using airplanes to spray.
So the airplane is going down here, but when
it's going back up, it's leaving a bunch of insecticides.
Which they'll have to remove, right?
