The thing that I’ve liked the most about being a VISTA was moving to a city I was really unfamiliar with
It was one of those situations where I didn’t know the resources that were available
so I kind of got to learn as my term progressed
I got to use a lot of the resources that I discovered
and I think that was a really great experience, moving to a new city for your service term
What I have liked the most about my VISTA terms
has been that they have been a fantastic learning opportunity for me
I’ve been able to see behind the scenes in a lot of processes
things that I’d like to be involved in in the future
that I’ve had access to and I’ve had access to the people involved
I feel like that’s been a real growth experience for me.
What I liked most about VISTA was, I guess, it’s hard to say everything
but almost every day I would find something very rewarding in the experience
as well as specifically the work that the DPI VISTA is doing
Everyday I was able to find a reason in my life
that justified how important it is to get parents involved in education
As well as all the successes having gone from a pretty reluctant site
to being able to have a lot of really great successes and them being really excited for a VISTA to come back next year
One thing I’m going to miss the most about being a VISTA
is having a really small group of people that are always going through the same thing as you
and you are having the same struggles at the same time. There’s always someone to talk to
but I think now that we are done and we are all going to scatter out
it’s gonna be, it’s always hard keeping those connections
I think that’s going to be the thing I’ll miss the most is being in constant contact
and we’ll have to keep updating those address books
but I definitely think I’ll miss that the most.
What I will miss most about VISTA is all of the people
Fellow VISTAs, people at the program, people at the library I’m working at
the people. I’ll miss the people
My first year supervisor, the director at the library
has become a mentor for me, so I think I’ll be bringing him along with me
to my future career, which is great.
Probably what I will miss the most is the people that I’ve met at the school.
It’s sad to say that if it wasn’t for the money
I would definitely go back and do another year
The relationship building takes a lot of time
and it’s sad that in the last two months of school is when I started feeling
like I know people, people trust me, people are coming to me with actual, substantial action items
things that they would like to see happen
I’m hopeful that with the sustainability binder that the VISTA that comes in
will not have as long of a relationship building process
But overall, I think it definitely impacted my perspectives in all areas of my life in very positive ways
