[MUSIC PLAYING]
My name is CJ Tyson.
I'm originally from Virginia Beach, Virginia.
I started dancing at the age of 17 back in Virginia Beach
with Denise Walls' Dance Energy.
Hey, Denise
I love theatrics, musical theater particularly.
I was on Broadway for the last three years.
I did Wicked for a while and then I just
finished West Side Story.
This piece today, it's about a group of people who have some
things in their lives that are not going so
well, like we all do.
We all have something going on.
I really don't know what to say.
My character, super flamboyant, androgynous, but
at the end of the day, those are the people who test
boundaries, who move things forward, move society forward.
And inevitably, they become the people that we want to
become one day.

I think the biggest challenge I've had to
overcome, hearing no.
Of course, everyone thinks they're the best especially
when they're in audition and their adrenaline is running.
You're going to hear no.
And you have to just be ready for that.
Out of all those nos, you're going to get a yes.
And that yes is awesome.
