We're here at the Egyptian Theater for the 4th Hollywood Brazilian Film festival with Talize.
Congratulations on your fourth festival!
Thank you.
How's the night going for you?
It’s all very moving. When we—my mom and I first started all of this,
I never thought we'd be where we’re at today. But it’s so important to dream because
when you dream and you work hard, you can achieve your dreams.
And this festival is proof of that.
This festival is a labor of love. Love for my country, love for Brazilian cinema,
love for my craft and I’m very proud of all of this.
Every time I come to the theater, I still can’t believe
that 650 people or more are in there watching a film in Portuguese.
In such a theater… It’s very moving. I’m overwhelmed with happiness. I’m very lucky.
It’s very hard to defend national cinema in Brazil,
even more so in the Mecca of cinema in Hollywood.
But it’s the love for cinema that breaks down any and all barriers.
What, in particular, is this festival offering that’s different from previous festivals?
Well, It’s not so different in that we continue with the same objective—
to showcase independent Brazilian films.
Some of the most important directors are here. We're closing the festival with Claudio Assis.
If a festival is closing with Claudio Assis, you know it’s legitimate.
I say that because he’s one of our greatest heroes in cinema.
I also believe that we have younger cinematographers... Heloisa Passos.
We paid homage to actress Cleo Pires.
Sara Silveira, one of the greatest producers in Brazil was also here.
All in all, we had 12 directors with awards from Berlin, Rotterdam, Cannes...
And they’re all here for the festival.
I hope that Brazilians come all week long to support national Brazilian cinema.
All events are completely free because I think it’s very important to educate ourselves
and see that Brazilian cinema is here to stay.
Therefore I don’t want to charge anyone for admission.
Don’t hesitate to come and fall in love with the festival.
Talize, thank you so much!
No, thank you!
