This weeks update is on the impact of the Affordable Care Act on Students at the University
of Washington. The first thing that you need to know, is that starting in fall of 2014
the student health insurance plan will be discontinued for domestic students. International
Students will still be required to purchase International Student Health Insurance Plan.
The affordable care act mandates that everyone have some sort of health insurance plan, and
this phase of open enrollment is ending on March 31st. So here are some options that
you have; if your parents have health insurance you can stay on that plan until you're 26.
If that is no available to you, you should look at your states health care exchange where
you can shop for different health insurance plans. Washington students should take a particular
look at Washington Apple Health which is free for those who are eligible. We know this issue
is complex and you may have questions so let us know at #ASUW60
