>> Abigail Adams: People's Light is a non-profit professional
theater in Malvern Pennsylvania.
We were founded in 1974 by a group of artists who believed
that theater should be fully engaged in
and responsive to community life.
>> Jane Moss: Some
of the challenges facing theater companies
like People's Light are the changing economy
and the changing atmosphere and environment
for non-profit's in general.
We're excited about the prospect of crowd funding.
We know that that's how lots of small gifts can come together
to accomplish something big.
>> Abigail Adams: It's hard to describe People's Light
because we do so many different kinds of work.
Every year we produce eight or nine plays
and this includes a range of work from classics
like A Winter's Tale, to contemporary plays
like Seven Guitars, to new plays, world premiers
like our Holiday Panto.
>> Queen Agnes has returned.
Hello everybody.
>> Hello.
>> Abigail Adams: We also have a huge commitment to working
with young people through our Arts Discovery programs.
These programs include classes, school residencies,
and long term projects with teens
from the counties around the theater.
We fervently believe that working
with young people inspires and informs our professional work,
and professional artists can really transform the lives
of young people.
>> Jane Moss: Like all not for profit theater companies,
every year we must raise needed, new contributed income
from a variety of sources.
Working in partnership with Give To Benefit and Hailun Pianos
to secure a new piano for our work, is enabling us
to extend our reach and make new friends we would not have
found otherwise.
