In this video I'm going to show some video design and layout factors that can actually
affect whether viewers visit your website or subscribe to your channel after they finish
watching. Stay tuned because at the end of the video I've got a free Photoshop template
for you that will help you with the design and layout of your videos.
If you're producing video for YouTube, it pays to be aware of how certain areas of your
video are affected by overlays YouTube can place over your video, and where other elements
are on the screen.
while your viewer is watching, it's worth putting a watermark of your website address
in the corner of your video. The best place for this is top right, because if you place
it at the bottom, it can get obscured by YouTube's banner adverts and player controls.
Another good tip is rather than leaving your watermark in the same place for the entire
video, fade it in and out every ten seconds or so, and this will draw viewer's attention
to it.
As I mentioned, if you enable revenue sharing with YouTube the lower third of your video
will get obscured by their banner adverts, and the very bottom of your video will get
slightly obscured by their layout controls, so just bear those areas in mind if you're
planning on putting important information down there.
Depending on the length of your YouTube user name, the button to subscribe to your channel
will appear pretty much just left of center at the top of your videos, so if you want
to direct a user's attention to the subscribe button, aim for that location.
An even better alternative is to actually make a button in Photoshop and place it in
your video, then use YouTube's annotations feature to link your button to your channel.
To help with this, I've created a photoshop template which is actually blown up in size
to allow design for video elements at full 720p HD resolution, so if you're designing
arrows or buttons to use in your videos you can use this and see how they're going to
look on screen.
Now good news and bad - the template is only available to email subscribers of my newsletter
at compelling.tv, but the good news is when you subscribe you'll also receive a whole
bunch of other free stuff to help with your videos. I also send out regular tips and tricks
to subscribers which I'm sure you'll find useful.
So, visit compelling.tv, join the newsletter and I'll send you a link to the template file
and much more.
