Hello, my name is Eric and I work here at Bridges.
On February 29th, the agency hosted a really cool event called “Lunch Chat.” Bridges sent out a mass announcement inviting the Deaf and hard of hearing communities to come down to the agency to get updated on unfolding events here at the agency.
Most Deaf and hard of hearing community members had probably already heard rumors about the office building being on the market and possibly sold. Approximately 50-60 community members attended Lunch Chat to learn more.
Bridges’s Board Chair Jon, Geise updated everyone on the progress made with the sale of the building. He stated while the building is in the process of being sold, it by no means meant that the agency would be moving any time soon. Jon explained that there
was still a lengthy process to endure before we are ready to pack our bags and move to a new location.
Following Jon’s presentation, Bridges’ program directors each took a few minutes to explain what was happening within their departments. One statement that was made pertained to the need for more Deaf involvement in Bridges programs. The youth program is
in great need of more community support. We would like for the students in the youth program to have interactions with Deaf adults so that they may have a better picture of what their futures could entail and develop possible relationships for role models.
Following the meeting, most attendees stuck around to finish eating and socialize with fellow members. It was a great event. I would like to thank all of those in attendance for sharing their feedback on what they would like to see in the building.
We value all the opinions shared at the meeting very much. Again, thanks to everyone who supported the agency by attending the meeting. We look forward to all of the new changes on the horizon. Take care and good bye.
