This is Travis with POSGuys.com. Today we're reveing the Unitech AS10 Contact CCD Barcode
Scanner. Like it's name says it is basically a contact scanner.
You want to put the scanner right on top of the barcode and then scan away.
Its range is limited to from contact to about two inches. You're not going to be able to
go way back. Even on a larger barcode you're still limited range wise.
Generally these types of barcode scanners are used in low volume retail on perfectly
printed barcode scanners. So things like books it works well on. If you're printing, or using
barcodes that are not on flat surfaces or might get damaged easily it is not a good
scanner.
This is also not light immune. If you have any kind of bright light like a window or
sunlight, um or bright store lighting than the scanner is not going to work anymore.
You can get on top of the barcode scanner and kind of hide the light but if any of that
light gets in it gets really difficult to scan.
So indoor use only, flourescent type of lighting. There are no new moving parts in it, it is
durable. It is rated at four foot drops, you could probably drop it more than that just
because it is so light.
Single button trigger and it's a button.
It's not really shaped, it's not mechanical it's just pushing a little switch.
It does general UPCs, it does ISPN just fine, it won't do any types of 2D barcodes, won't
do PDF417.
Price wise though it is under fifty dollars. It is a cheap well priced scanner. If you're
doing very limited barcode scanning this is something to consider.
