Well, Chico State is one of the 23 California State University campuses.
And the school started something called a "normal school" for training teachers.
And it's since grown into a full-fledged university.
We provide a range of SAP applications from accounting and accounting information systems,
business process integration, pretty much any topic that might
be taught in a university that would use SAP systems.
It was important that we choose a solution that allowed a great deal of computing capacity,
great deal of memory that we could use in a virtualized fashion.
There was a lot of good press about the UCS platform and its performance.
The solution that we selected was both Cisco, for the Cisco UCS platform for computing,
and then NetApp, for our storage. We felt both were best of breed solutions.
The new system now uses less than ten percent the amount of space the old system used,
and uses about 20 percent of the power and the air conditioning that the old system used.
We were able to take 22 racks of gear in a separate computing facility,
and move that to two racks of gear that were now located in the University's Co-location Center.
Which was designed as more or less a state of the art hosting center.
Our local power company gave a $700,000 rebate to the University,
just due to the power savings that the system had represented.
The flexibility that was inherent in that architecture, I thought was phenomenal and definitely something
that we'd be able to take advantage of.
I certainly am happy, and amazed, and absolutely appreciate the partnership that we've had from
both Cisco and from NetApp. They've been highly invested in the success of our operation.
And we basically wouldn't be able to field the system we have without their help. So that's been excellent.
