What is the role of an egg donor team at a fertility clinic?
Dr. Sasmira Lalwani, IVF New Jersey: Once it's been decided that the patient needs to move forward with donor eggs,
they meet with the donor egg team, because each RE practice that does donor egg will have a donor egg team.
And that team comprises of the physician, who takes care of all the decisions regarding the treatment of the donor and of the recipient.
Then the nurses, who are called the donor egg coordinators who will coordinate everything
and also take care of the ordering of the medications, of how to take the injections.
Then you meet with the clinical psychologist, you know, who speaks to the recipient and makes sure that they are ready to do this,
so if there are any concerns or any ambivalence in doing donor egg, which is very understandable (and we see that quite often),
and before is to meet with what I call "the matchmaker."
It's a person who, you know, sits down with you and asks you what you are looking for in a donor
and sees if we can find the right match for the patient.
