The history of the First Choice program actually started back in the the
nineties
it was all the centers throughout the state of idaho that decided to get
together and figure out a personal assistance program that was
self-directed. The customers that qualify for the age and disabled waiver are able to
contact medicaid. Then a nurse comes to their home.
They assess them then they have a choice
to choose a self-directed company such as ours or a traditional agency.
Through self-direct customers had a chance to make their own choices to be their
own bosses to be in control of who they hire and who they fire who works for them
and what they do in their own home.
The only thing that we do through our offices here is we do what is called the employment of record.
We're basically the broker for this
individual so we'll do all the W-4s and I-9s all the stuff that it takes
to hire somebody to get them employed
and then we hand it off to the customer.
The First Choice Program is located in all three Disability Action Centers.
We have a client base from the Canadian
border all the way down to Riggins.
One of the great benefits of the First Choice Program through Disability Action Center
is that we have independent living
specialists that we can refer people to,
to allow people to stay in their own homes
and stay in control of their life.
It's very rewarding to know that people are doing that.
You know you're helping people in that sense...
you know that they are living the life they want to live.
And I have nothing to say about it. I just help them to do it.
