Ms. Chi: Janelle,
tell us the reason you are at Garden of Hope Foundation in Taiwan to begin your round-the-island tour on bicycle.
We are all curious to know!
Tell us why you, as a girl from another country, want to celebrating your 30th birthday in this manner...
...and you want to do charity to fundraise for Garden of Hope Foundation
Tell us why you are celebrating your 30th birthday this way!
Janelle: I'm going to be 30 years old soon, and I want to give myself a unique birthday present.
I've always wished to have backpack vacation.
I've already visited Taiwan several times prior to this, and I find that Taiwan is a very safe place for travelling
So, I came up with the idea of using my travels to make an impact on society, and to give back to society
I did an online search for suitable organizations to partner with And I found an article on the Australian Andrew Bonello, who toured Taiwan on a bicycle.
[Andrew] fundraised money for a good cause, and I wanted to do the same.
I want to ask you
You are also helping One Billion Rising Taiwan campaign in this trip
One Billion Rising Taiwan is a campaign to end violence against women.
One Billion Rising's slogan is Strike.Dance.Rise.
Tell us how you plan to encourage others to join this campaign.
Well, I plan to take photos, and dance with people. We will record us with the One Billion Rising signature pose (i.e. an index finger pointing upwards)
hand raised, index finger pointing upwards, symbolizing a rising
One billion represents one billion persons.
Actually, there is a significant meaning behind this...
I'm sure you have studied this, right? Yes. I've read about why this campaign is called "One Billion Rising"
Globally, one in every three women have been *** or have been beaten
That is why I want to stand up for these one billion persons and call for an end of violence.
So, you're joining campaign and also fundraising for this purpose, right?
Yes, because I find that many charity organizations have financial pressure; without sufficient money, it is not possible to adequately help these battered women.
Everyone look up!
Rise up, women!
Here's a hug! Everyone can give her a hug, before we see her off!
God bless you with journey mercies! Thank you!
