my name is Kathleen Niles and I am the president and C.E.O of Nessis
incorporated
we're in the manufacturing sector
and we provide services and software for e-automation.
The UOIT project was all about
taking our software into a mobile state.
The project is called "visual work instruction for mobility"
and its basic concept is to take
visual work instructions in manufacturing and have created a mobile
application for that.
We approached the university because we felt that there was
a need to have a mobile application for our software
and that it was a marketable concept
but Nessis currently is very busy working in the industry and
doesn't either have the resources or the time to develop that that market
strategies so
the university
offered to have their science department
take up some of their team and actually work with us and and we work with the
professor, Mark Green, on making that happen.
It helped pay for all the research in the actual development of the software
code
that was required to make the application go from
a single database function to a mobile function.
We didn't really have internal resources we've got a couple of
very large projects on our table
and i just feel that the timing making this all work is probably as
critical as anything
and because we didn't have the resources internally that yeah I do believe
this does a dual thing and actually opens the door for the university
students to be working on a real life projects in the field
and it also allows the companies to tap into that resource so that we both sort
of benefit.
