Semi-automated translation - Today we will see a clash of titans, between 4 mobile technology superstars and a well respected outsider. Let's start the comparative, presenting one by one the competitors:
HTC HD mini is the smallest of all the competitors. Very lightweight (only 110 grams), has a 3.2 inch display with a resolution HVGA, 320 x 480 pixels. The device, needless to say, is very pocketable, and this is one of the most interesting features of the HTC HD2.
From the device that has smallest dimensions we go to the other extreme, the giant of the Microsoft platform. The adjective is, of course, referring to the physical proportions of the HTC HD2: 157 grams is the weight, not a butterfly, but it has a very generous touchscreen, the first capacitive display in the history of Windows Mobile. The diagonal is 4.3 inches and the resolution is 480 x 800 pixels.
Let's change the operating system, going to Android with the HTC Desire, the spearhead of the range High Tech Computer. Also the Google Nexus One counterpart has capacitive monitor, but here it adds AMOLED technology, capable to give much greater brightness and contrast to images. The diagonal is 3.7 inches and the resolution 480 x 800 pixels, as in the HTC HD2.
After the Desire is the time of the HTC Legend. The dimensions and weight are sufficiently small: 112 x 56.3 x 11.5 mm - 126 grams. Else the Apollo of the new smartphone Android series of High Tech Computer is characterized by capacitive AMOLED touchscreen (3.2''), that has vivid colors. The resolution is HVGA, equivalent to 320 x 480 pixels.
Finally the iPhone: it is a traditional LCD display but capacitive. Apple, in this as in other fields, was a trailblazer: she is the inventor of the pocket multitouch. The diagonal of the monitor is equal to 3.5 inches, the resolution is HVGA 320 x 480 pixels. The monitor is very defined, although not adopts AMOLED technology, thanks to a very small dot pitch: you know that dot pitch is the distance between the LCD cells and the other, to put it simply, between a pixel and another. More are close and more defined are video and images.
It's a shame not to have a smartphone Samsung among competitors, better if Super AMOLED. Samsung was among the first to introduce the winning AMOLED technology in the mobile sector. In this respect there is a curious anecdote, that we learned during a recent trip to Redmond, in United States. It seems that initially, we are talking about a year ago, the Korean corporation has ordered a very large amount of AMOLED display from the producers, saturating the market and leaving competitors with a dry mouth and forcing them to follow with many lengths away.
iPhone is still the king of the interaction with fingers. The king, however, is under pressing by HTC Desire and Legend, able to really intimidate Apple in this area. Less optimal for Pinch-To-Zoom the two devices governed by the Microsoft platform: for them the feature is still young, so much so that HD2 was the first one Windows phone in the world to introduce multitouch and capacitive screen.
Let's go back to size and weight. As mentioned HD Mini is the most pocketable and, why not, wins for sympathy. The look of the terminal is elegant yet casual, and fitsboth a sportswear and working uniforms. iPhone continues to excel for recognizability and for the quality of materials, although the design is no more so young. Forits part HTC HD2 has the merit to make wearable a display with unusual dimensions: 4.3 inches diagonal, despite the device fits well into his pocket as in hands. Thecredit goes to the thickness of the chassis, particulary reduced. The winning in aesthetics, however, seems to be the HTC Legend: thanks to the aluminum chassis, that suggests strength and quality, the tactile feel is excellent. We should have preferred a different profile: it's very similar to that of the HTC Hero. About the HTCDesire we just said that we would have preferred a more aggressive design, less anonymous, to pay tribute to the extraordinary wealth of the features and of the technical specs.
We are at the end of the first part of the comparison between HTC Desire, iPhone, HTC Legend, HD Mini, HTC HD2. Stay tuned: one of the future challenge will be the Web browser war.
