Amazon CloudFront is a content delivery service from Amazon Web Services
that helps you improve the performance, reliability, and availability
of your websites and applications.
Amazon CloudFront delivers your static and streaming content
using a network of edge locations around the world.
Amazon CloudFront is a good choice if you have users that are globally distributed,
expect high volume traffic, or stream real time content.
Content is served from your configured Amazon S3 bucket
or custom origin server to the edge location
that has the lowest latency for the user who requests it.
In this example, the origin is the Amazon S3 bucket where you store status content.
Let's create a CloudFront distribution.
To create a Cloudfront distribution, at the top of the AWS Management Console,
click the Amazon CloudFront tab.
In the CloudFront console, click Create Distribution.
In the Create Distribution Wizard, click download for the delivery method,
and select a bucket for your Amazon S3 origin.
We will select aws-webapp.
Click Continue.
On the Distribution Details page, specify HTTP and HTTPS for Allowed Connections.
If you want to use a CNAME, enter the CNAME alias you want to associate with this distribution.
You must own the domain name and have created the CNAME record on the domain’s DNS servers.
Specifying a CNAME is optional and we will leave CNAME blank.
You may choose to use a default root object for your distribution such as index.html.
For this example, we will leave this blank.
Enable logging, and then, from Select Log Bucket,
choose the Amazon S3 bucket to which you want to save your logs.
We will select aws-webapp.
Specify the log prefix for your Amazon CloudFront logs.
In comments, you can enter any notes you want to include about the distribution.
For the distribution status, select Enabled
if you want the distribution to accept end user requests
for content as soon as it is deployed.
Otherwise, if you prefer to enable the distribution later, choose disabled.
We will leave it enabled.
Click Continue.
Review your settings, and if everything looks OK, click Create Distribution.
After creating the distribution, it might take a few minutes to deploy.
The distribution’s current status is displayed in the console under status.
IN_PROGRESS indicates that the distribution is not yet fully deployed.
When your distribution is deployed, you are ready to reference your content
with your new Amazon CloudFront domain name or CNAME.
