...I have a numb tongue right now.
It is so easy and you're doing *** like that.
Hello, I'm Shahram Forutan.
I'm a World Champion in Powerlifting.
Today I explain you some things
about the Deadlifts
and some rules you have to pay attention to
when entering a competition.
There are two types of deadlifts:
Classic and Sumo deadlift.
Classic means your legs are relatively close
and sumo means wide.
How you do it is personal preference
I did both types.
I did classic back in the day
and now I do sumo deadlifts.
In my opinion sumo deadlifts are better
because your back is more protected
through using your legs more.
When you do sumo deadlifts
you stand wide.
Barbell close to your shins.
It's very important to have no space
to the shins.
It's also important to wear very flat shoes
like ballet shoes, boxer shoes...
as long as you have maximum contact to the ground.
Stay straight, head up, breath in....
...and while you go down
with much air in your body
you grab the barbell
and pull while screaming it out.
Pretty much like I do it now.
On a competition you will be called out first
and now I explain how it continues...
You come to the stage.
You see the barbell with the weights on.
In my case with sumo deadlifts
you position yourself wide
and barbell close to the shins.
What I have to mention also
you have to wear a one-piece jersey
and long socks going up to the knees.
You are not allowed to wear short socks
As you go on
The main judge sitting in front of you
holds his hand up.
That means you can pull.
From now on: head up, breathe in
down slowly...
If you are up here its important that
your knees are extended
because the judge pays attention to it.
The chest has to be extended too.
If you did both right
the judge gives the signal "down".
His straight up arm goes down to tell you
to go down with the weight.
Very important: dont drop the weight!
You go down slowly.
If you drop the weight
your attempt will be invalid.
While preparing for a competition
I personally try to grab the barbell
with an overgrip as often as possible.
If it gets to heavy for that
I use the cross grip.
Grab the barbell very hard like that
twist and lock your hands.
Your hands have to be like a bench vice.
As tight as possible.
Then you deadlift.
Some words to equipment:
You can use a belt.
You can use a one-piece jersey
or a deadlift suit.
It depends on your specific federation
what you are allowed to use and what not.
For example in some federations you can use
only one-layered suits
in others two-layered suits.
Pay attention to that
because if you got the wrong suit
you're not allowed to compete
Also remember to wear long socks to the knees
because if you wear normal short socks
you are not allowed to compete also.
Furthermore I recommend very flat shoes
like for example ballett shoes, boxer shoes...
You must have as much contact to the ground as possible
for best results.
