3 ANNIVERSARIES AND 3 CHARACTERS:
SAILOR-CHILD, SPORTSMAN PILOT AND TOURIST-PENSIONER
What a great celebration!
It’s 10th of May 1940, the child was turning 4 years old,
the guests were helping to an aperitif in the living room and ***,
because this story is about him, was in the kitchen, dressed in a beautiful sailor suit.
“Granny… does the stork bring children every day?”
he asked while he was trying to show his grandmother how the locomotive backs up into the depot.
At the affirmative response, the child continues…
“Then why there are not celebrations with guests, gifts, flowers, and flags on the houses every day?”
He does not find out the answer because he backs up into the bucket of water which comes up to his knees...
Involuntarily he pushes the lid and falls into the bucket.
At the child’s screams which were caused rather by fear than pain,
his mother appears together with the guests, who, seeing my tragically-comic situation,
had to change my sailor suit in order to continue the party.
The year 1949 changes radically the sailor’s life in the ‘40s…
from the watchmen aspiring to go in Galati, he end up by leaving for Brasov, where,
in the 50’s, he becomes a member of the Union of Communist Youth and also,
a pilot on Ghimbav aerodrome, on a beautiful I.A.R.813 airplane, right on 10th of May – his birthday.
Being a student pilot,
*** makes his first flight of acclimation when he was 18 years old and after landing,
he was waited by his colleagues who undressed him for the initiation custom
and threw him into a pile of thorns and thistles in order to never forget his first flight.
The years have passed, and life took ***,
the sailor in his childhood, all across Romania.
He got married, enrolled in the army, he enjoyed the gold honoring of his UTO 27,
the tractor on which he worked,
together with the famous tractor family from Brasov
and the destiny made it as to find his peaceful place in Focsani, out of all cities.
Focsani, the City of the Union, was under re-construction after the great earthquake in ’77,
and it became his hometown.
A great deal from the city’s old, beautiful architecture had disappeared
and it went through a period of modernization – new streets, new buildings,
new industries, new people and new anniversaries.
The 10th of May, 2009 brought *** to the journey of his life to which
he hadn’t even had the courage to dream:
Croatia, Italy, Spain, Germany, France, Austria, Hungary and Romania.
8 countries and more than 10 dream-like cities brought joy to ***’s soul,
mind and eyes at his 76 years which he lived with joy, work and fulfillment.
But the date of 10th of May remains the dearest day to his soul, his birthday,
a day of celebration in the entire country, in the old days, with flowers and flags in every house.
That’s how he saw it through the eyes of a 4 year old.
