Thank you for joining us today. I’m Rudy Stebih and welcome to Episode 6 – Setting Up A
Free Windows Live Writer Blog here on Help Desk TV.
Windows Live Writer is a tool for creating blog entries. Windows Live Writer makes it
easy for you to post what you write for your blog.
When you start Windows Live Writer for the first time, you will be prompted to configure
a few settings to set up your blog. After selecting the ‘Next’ button, the
next screen presented will prompt you for which blog service you want to set up. Windows
Live Writer supports blog services such as Wordpress, Blogger, LiveJournal and TypePad.
Here, we will create a new Wordpress blog. Note that if you decide you later want to
associate or add a different blog to your Windows Live Writer, you’ll be able to do
this. First select, ‘Create a new blog’ and
then click ‘Next’. The window changes to inform you that Microsoft has now partnered
with Wordpress for hosting your blogs and that you will need to create an account on
Wordpress before you can continue setting up Windows Live Writer. Click on the ‘Go
to Wordpress’ link, and follow the steps to creating your Wordpress account.
Once your Wordpress account is created, click on the ‘Set up in Writer’ button to configure
Windows Live Writer. When the ‘Windows Live Writer’ setup screen appears, enter your
Wordpress logon credentials. Press ‘Next’ to continue.
Click ‘Yes’ to download your default Wordpress theme so you can see what your posts look
like online while your editing. Next, confirm your Blog nickname. Your also
now given the chance to Share your blog posts on Windows Live by selecting the ‘Share
my blog on Windows Live’ link. Which you will then be taken to your Windows Live account
to authenticate the permission by clicking the ‘Connect’ button.
Click the ‘Finish’ button to complete the setup. At this point, you’ve set up
your blog. And you are now ready to start using Windows Live Writer using the Windows
Live Writer editing screen. I hope you enjoyed todays Help Desk TV. If
