Hello, I’m Tiana and I’m 7 years old.
I’ve got a sister called Star and she’s 10 years old.
This is a film about me and my sister because we have brittle bones.
Brittle bone disease means that you can break your bones easily and it usually hurts.
With me, I’ve broken about 7 or 8 bones and my sister Star has broken 33 bones.
For most people who don’t have brittle bones, they don’t break bones like me and my sister.
But me and Star, we break our bones easily so we’ve been in hospital for a long, long time.
I broke my arm dead easily from crawling.
Today I’m going to get my plaster cast off and get a bandage on it.
Brittle bone disease is a genetic condition.
Genetic that means you are born with it and you can’t catch it.
My mum has brittle bone disease too, so my mum gave me and Star the gene.
How does that feel Tiana?
Not bad.
It’s nice and clean.
I’ve got an older sister called Jasmine.
She is 16 but she doesn’t have our disease.
The thing with brittle bone disease is that it’s not always passed on.
Can I have earphones?
No you’re alright Tiana, you’re doing the interview.
5, 4, 3, 2, 1. ACTION!
What do you worry about?
I worry about you going up and down the stairs.
I worry about you when you’re in the bath.
I even worry that you’re going to fall off the toilet.
I worry what you’re doing in bed, because Star has fractured while jumping on the bed.
I worry about you tripping up over things.
You’re just like every other child but you just have to be so careful.
I just worry about you all the time – that you’re going to hurt yourself and have a fracture.
What’s the worst fracture your children have ever had?
The worst one you’ve had, or that we found out about, was the fractures in your neck.
We didn’t even know they had happened and that was very serious.
Erm. Oh, sorry.
Some of the worst ones that Star has had have been her legs, and they’ve been really, really painful.
They’re the worst ones for Star – I think she would agree.
Oh, sorry.
Because of all the fractures she’s had it causes her legs to bow in the middle, there.
So her tibias are going there, bending; and her knee is going, there;
and her femurs are bowing out slightly, there.
The fractures that you’ve had, you’ve broken: toes, metatarsals, tibias, fibulas,
femurs, humorous, ulna, spinal fractures, rib fractures.
Then straight back down there again in to both arm bones, femur, tibia, metatarsals.
So you’ve gone all the way from the top of one side of your body to the bottom of the other side.
Don’t forget my back.
And your spine, yeah.
Have I broken my neck?
No, Tiana has. So yeah.
We don’t think you’ve broken that yet!
Careful!
Hug. Hug.
Cut…I said cut!
