I applied for the Peace Corps to help people who need assistance, to experience a new culture,
and to make a real difference in a global scale. I'm an artist.
I want someday to inspire and move people through my art. I felt like this was the way to do that in a different way.
My parents are Ecuadorian. They were at first a little confused because they didn’t know what Peace Corps was about.
They were nervous and scared because, you know, going for two years to a different world, a different country.
But then after I explained it further, they realized it was a noble thing to do
and they knew I wanted to do it, so they just supported me.
Maybe in the beginning my background may make it a little easier for me to integrate in a sense,
but then once you take that further, I’m basically American,
so, you know, it helped me to get in a little more
but I still have to do most of the work just like anybody else from America.
