Despite being heterosexual, I feel empathy for the gay movement
and I think the reason is that I see a lot of similarities between the gay and atheist movement
the first similarity that I see is people's fear...
Against atheists and homosexuals
The average person tends to think that people belonging to those denominations
are lacking moral, that they hate themselves, that they hate the world
and that they are more likely than anybody else to practice perversions and reprehensible moral acts
that are more prone to drug and alcohol abuse
Because from their point of view, religion and heterosexuality...
are like an antidote against all these evils
There is even people who feel pity and sadness for homosexuals and atheists
and they pray for their comeback to the "good ways"
There's talks and lectures in which they try to convince homosexuals to stop being homosexuals
and there are debates between atheists and believers to defend religion
However, this perspective has evident flaws
and they repeatedly fall in logical fallacies inculcated by their religious leaders
For example, having moral and loving yourself has nothing to do with religion
In fact, in the Bible we can find verses that inculcates quite the opposite
Like the one I'll just mention: In Romans chapter 3, ver.11:12
"There is not one just, not even one...
not one sensible, none that looks for God...
they are all lost, useless...
there is nobody doing good deeds, not even one"
and it later continues:
Romans, Chapter 3, ver. 19:20
"Everybody be quiet, and let the whole world acknowledge their guilt to God...
Because by the observance of the Law no mortal will be justified before God
the fruit of the Law is other, it makes us aware of sin."
The message from both verses is very clear...
"You are worthless, and you will be judged as the lowlife sinner you are."
And what is the solution against the penalty that we all bare according to religion?
Very simple! Sending a guy to the cross so he can sacrifice himself in our behalf
Doesn't that make you feel remorse?
Christian religion, specially Catholic focus in to make us feel inferior and guilty
Things that are opposite to self confidence and love in oneself
a person who actually believes the Bible...
will think of himself as inferior and worthless..
because they were born with the original sin...
and the only way to be saved is to dedicate one's life to religious teachings
and worshiping Jesus
Those religious teachings demand a standard too high to be accomplished
because sins aren't limited to actions
they also include thoughts and wishes
trapping the believer in a circle of feeling inferior and guilt
That's the reason why homosexuals who believe in religion...
are more likely to feel remorse of their own sexuality or *** orientations
And that's the reason why a potential agnostic or atheist...
won't stop following their religious leaders despite of the nonsense of their teachings
But well, going back to the addictions topic...
alcohol, cigarette, and drog addiction
are related to the imperfect condition of the human being...
I've known inveterate drinkers who won't get up from bed without crossing themselves
and who won't go to sleep without praying
there are also people addicted to crack that attend mass regularly
or to confess their sins to the priest
or at least hang big crosses to their necks
or wear wristbands with images of saints
Religion doesn't protect against addictions
Why? Because addictions are related more to a psychological issue
and that affects believers, atheists, homosexuals and heterosexuals alike
addictions are more related to ignorance rather than morality and spirituality
Referring to *** perversions... *** repression is a more related factor addressing such perversions
As an example we have *** priests
that despite being representatives of church morality
they have no problem in hiding *** of helpless, deaf, mute kids
So, in this particular issue, being atheist or gay h as no more relevance
than being a professional of religion
The second parallelism is...
the acceptance of homosexuals and atheists that all this guilt...
though by the church, has no valid arguments
that is designed to control them, immediately they feel free from oppression
and they start to lead more full happy lives
Religious belief, as well as nowadays reactionary culture
are burden that makes a lot of atheists and homosexuals to stay in the closet
But when this issue is overcome their lives improve
the third parallelism...
comes when people that hadn't meet homosexuals or atheists before and are afraid of them
because they only know these minorities through ignorant and prejudicial people
and they'll have a wrong idea based in poor judgment
But when these people realize that their long life friend...
their cousin, their brother, teacher or neighbor...
are gay, atheist... or both
and they also realize that those are decent trustworthy people...
this person will admit his/her mistake
and that not believing in God, or not being attracted by the opposite sex
doesn't turn people into monsters or lunatics
Then they'll start to ask themselves who are the rational ones
and who are the intolerant ones
That's why I promote discussion without insults or aggressiveness
because when you defend yourself against our detractors in an irrational way...
we immediately become the bad guys
Let's be patient!
