Hi, I’m Phillip Hedayatnia, and it’s time to bring you the top three stories in tech, in just about three minutes
in something we like to call T3.
First the Mozilla Foundation, makers of second-most-used browser Firefox,
have unveiled what they call the Firefox OS,
a to-be-open-source operating system for phones and mobile devices
based on Firefox and HTML5.
It can run ANY iOS/Android app using HTML5 which has been recompiled,
and will feature rich Facebook and Twitter integration from the beginning -
WITHOUT a constant internet connection!
Mozilla is teaming up with Sprint, Telefonica Movil, and a TON of other cellular carriers
to launch a phone as well, in early 2013 in Brazil and late 2013 worldwide.
Additionally all Firefox phones will be locked in but still fully hackable and will all sell for under a hundred bucks!
Current demos of the hardware show them to be pretty snappy and sweet,
and hopefully they'll dump Sprint (like everyone I know has) and sign on to a real carrier sometime soon.
Next the cable television industry is heating up -
and not because someone from Jersey Shore just burned the whole of New Jersey!
No, Jersey Shore’s parent company Viacom is in a bit of a dispute with DirecTV
over an fee increase where, as Viacom rubs in, DirecTV would pay a few cents extra per channel per subscriber
but as DirecTV rubs in, would cost an additional 1 BILLION dollars every year
a cost they say they refuse to pass on to their customers
It’s the largest TV blackout in history, with MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and a plethora of other networks blacked out
and Viacom’s taken another step: they’re removing their shows from the internet as well to make sure no DirecTV subscribers can get to them!
Petitions are already being made to force DirecTV to pay up and get this over with, and for Viacom to stop being ridiculous about how much providers have to pay.
But, as long as I use U-Verse and less people can watch Snooki, maybe this isn’t so bad after all?
And finally, South Korean firm CJ 4DPLEX has premiered technology called 4DX,
currently in operation in China, Thailand, Mexico, and Brazil,
which promises to immerse you in the movie experience like never before.
That includes when 3D came out, when it immersed you in the movie experience like never before,
and when Digital Cinema came out, and when it immersed you in the movie experience like never before,
and when the freaking FILM PROJECTOR came out, when it… you get the picture.
4DX uses five tools to make the theatre experience even more real: moving chairs, in-theatre lighting effects, scent control, simulated wind, and water effects.
So now, an improved version of the “4D” theatre “experience” you can find at museums as an excuse for higher ticket prices is coming to a theatre near you!
So, is it a gimmick, or is it the future? Comment below to let us know, and as always, please like, comment, and subscribe!
My name is Phillip Hedayatnia, and thank you for watching T3!
