Give me your prettiest sound. Don't play louder than what you think is lovely. Go ahead. (sound
of saxophone) Music is a wonderful thing it's a whole new language and it makes you feel
good. I'm Nicholas Contorno, graduated in June of 1961 with a Bachelor of Science degree
in Combination with Music, Instrumental and Vocal Music Education. I started my career
as an elementary band director and instructor, and I seem to be finishing it the same way
I started. I've come full circle. It's an honor to be an alum of the University of Wisconsin
Milwaukee especially the school of music. It is one of the finest schools of music anywhere.
And because of my training there I had a great career. I could do anything because that's
how they trained us. Colonel Tim Foley who was the 26th director of the marine band,
called me and he said can I bring the marine to Marquette University so he said, how would
you like to be my guest conductor. And I said "wow". That was the greatest two and a half
minutes of my life. And 3 and 4 (Sound of saxophone). It's very humbling to be nominated
by your peers and by your friends for such a great honor. I guess I taught 52 years but
I never went to work.
