-Credit card fraud is a very serious crime
here in the state of Nevada, and can
carry penalties of up to 20 years in state prison.
Credit card fraud is listed under NRS section 205.760,
and it can include using a credit card that doesn't belong
to you, with somebody else's name on it.
It can include using credit card numbers to purchase items
on the internet when those credit card
numbers don't belong to you.
It can also include manufacturing and trafficking
of credit cards, or tampering with the magnetic strips
on credit cards.
Interestingly, sometimes a victim of credit card fraud
can look like a perpetrator.
We've seen cases where someone may hand their credit
card to a merchant or a taxi cab driver
and receive a card back that is not their card.
And then they go to use that credit card,
not realizing that in fact, they had been victimized
by a theft of their own credit card.
So things aren't always as they seem
when it comes to a credit card investigation.
At the Las Vegas Defense Group, if you've
been charged with credit card fraud,
we'll sit down and talk to you about how
you came into possession of an alleged false credit
card or credit card numbers.
And we will negotiate with the prosecution
so that we can tell your side of the story, assert your defense,
and do our best to negotiate a dismissal
or reduction of your charges.
