Hello and welcome to Cupcake Addiction's Dr Seuss Cat in the Hat Push Up Cakepop Tutorial
where I'll be showing you how to make this fantastic Cat in the Hat cake shooter or push
up cakepop. Tools and equipment that we will be using
today: I have some sticky tape or scotch tape.
I'm using 2 red velvet cupcakes. You're going to need 1 1/2 cupcakes for each one of these
so 3 cupcakes get you 2 push up pops. I'm using red velvet because we want that lovely
red color and I do have a great recipe and tutorial for a red velvet cupcake on my channel.
I will leave a link to that in the description box below.
I'm pairing that today with some of our white cream cheese frosting. I'll leave a link to
that one in the description box as well, just in a disposable piping bag.
And I've just got quite a narrow round tip piping tip on there. You can use any round
tip piping tip you like. Otherwise, you can use a zip lock bag with the corner snipped
off as well. I've got my push up pop container. Now, I
get mine on eBay. You don't really want to spend more than about 60 cents to a dollar
on each one of these, depending on how many of them you're buying at a time. I think mine
were about 60 cents but I bought quite a few. So if you can't find those where you are,
do check on eBay. There are a lot of great retailers.
I've got some quite heavy duty paper. So this is a 210GSM paper or card. And I've got a
piece of that just plain and I've also printed out our Dr Seuss Cat in the Hat printables
on a piece of that 210GSM card. I've precut-out my Dr Seuss Cat in the Hat head. And as you
can see, I've taken off his hat and I've taken of his neck. So we want to stop at the bow
tie there and we're also going to be making his hat so he doesn't need to be wearing one
of those today. I've got a serrated edge knife.
I've got a pair of scissors. I've got a permanent marker or (Inaudible
01:44) and that one's got quite a sort of a fine point on the end of it there for a
bit of detail work. And I've got 2 cookie cutters today. I'm using
one which is 4 ½ cm. or 1.5 inches and I'm using another one which is 7 ½ cm. or 3 inches.
So this one here I've basically chosen because it is the exact size of the inside of my push
up pop container. Let's get started.
We want to start by cutting our cupcakes. Now I cut them while they're still in the
patty pans. And you can obviously make a (Inaudible 02:16) cake or something like that. But we're
Cupcake Addiction so we make everything out of cupcakes.
So while they're still in their cupcake case or their patty pan, just take that smaller
cookie cutter and twist as you're pushing down all the way to the bottom. Now you can
pull away that cupcake liner. Most of the cake's going to sort of stick to the outside.
That's going to go for [make] some lovely red velvet cakepops. And you push out your
lovely core of beautiful red cake. So we'll repeat that again.
Alright, so we've got our 2 cores of red cake. Now, we want to take the push up pop container.
And we're going to cut the cores of cake in half. So both of those are going to go into
halves. Straight across. This one here, I'm just going to take that sort of bumpy top
off the top of it so it is relatively flat. And this one here, exactly the same. So what
you should end up with is 4 discs of red cake. Taking one of those discs, we just want to
pop it in to the container. I like to do it this way, just seems to give me a little bit
more control as to where it goes in and how I push it in. And push it right down into
just like a little cup at the bottom. Make sure you're pushing it right down into that
little (Inaudible 03:34) cup. Taking some of that cream cheese frosting,
we're going to do a nice little swirl. And that's going to make our little yellow and
white stripes. So with your white stripes, make sure they are coming all the way out
to the edge of the push up pop container. Taking your next bit of red, push that in.
And do give it a nice little push down because that what's going to form the really nice
sort of together stripes of our hat. Once again with the frosting.
Now, you want to come up quite high. You really sort of want the frosting to be almost level
with the top of that push up pop container. So that when you put your last layer of hat
on, -- and the top of the Cat in Hat is always red -- you can sort of really really feel
the top there. So you don't want to have much of a gap in between actually closing the push
pop container. Now you can see, it's a really nice tight
fit and we've gone all the way to the top so we're using all of our push pop container
for the Cat in the Hat hat. That can just lay down now and we can get
to work on on some of our details. Now, to make the brim of the hat, I've used these
2 circle cutters again and -- just making sure you've wiped any of that excess cake
off -- we're going to take the larger and our permanent marker and just trace around
the outside. Now we are using permanent markers. They're
not actually going to be touching any of the food. But make sure that once you have used
the permanent markers to mark out all of your hat shapes, that you do give them a really
really good wash and get rid of any of the traces of the permanent marker that are on
the outside of your cutters. And I've basically just cut around those two
to make this shape here. So I've left a little bit of a flat so that we can wrap it around
the bottom of our push up pop container. And as I mentioned, I've also got the Cat in the
Hat head. So I'm just going to use just a little bit
of regular sticky tape. And you want that sticky tape to go right around the circumference
of the push up cake pop container. Position his head so that it's really quite close to
the bottom of that bottom layer of red velvet cake. Put a little bit of sticky tape over
his eyes and run that tape all the way around. If you can get the tape to actually meet up
with the back, it's a little bit better and just stops any risk of the tape not being
quite strong enough to hold it on. And I like to just sort of push the bow down so that
it's kind of wrapping around the bottom of that container as well.
Now taking the brim of the hat, we want to just position it around. Now I didn't tape
anywhere apart from the very very back of the hat. So position it around. Alright, so
if you've got a little gap at the back, it's not a big deal. We're just going to use a
little bit of sticky tape and we're just going to join that one together with our sticky
tape. So that's going to hold your hat brim in place.
And then I like to go around the edges, just kind of give it a few folds. The Cat in the
Hat's hat is definitely not neat and flat. So give it a few folds and kind of rustle
it up a little bit. If you do find that your hat is sliding around,
you can take a little bit more of that tape, just a little bit. And on the bottom, just
under the brim here, attach and use it to attach to the cakepop as well so that will
just keep that sort of bit of the hat in position. I didn't use any on this one. I don't think
you really need it but just depending on how big you've cut your hat.
So you want to now take your permanent marker and we're going to make the little Dr [Susy]
type lines. So with this, you want to do some on the brim. And look, more is better with
this. The more I put on, the better I felt it look. So just pop around the outsides and
pop on some lines. You want to pop some lines on the actual push pop container and I've
popped all of my black lines pretty well where the seams of the red cake and the white frosting
met up. So kind of 3 or 4 at a time seems to be the norm.

we'd love to have you stop by. See here, I'm even putting the little draw
lines at the very top of the hat and around the back because we want to bring that whole
thing in so it's actually making the entirety of the hat.
So basically, that's it. There you have your completed Dr Seuss Cat in the Hat push up
cakepop or cake shooter. Hope you've enjoyed watching this tutorial
as much as I've enjoyed making it for you and thank you very much for watching.
